The Sheffield Star
Searching on behalf of my husband, Neil McNair (previously known as Leo Foster) from Sheffield area. Mother had surnames late McNair, previously Foster, possibly Gregory with ms of Bates. Step-father was Daniel McNair, deceased bio-father was Leon Patrick Foster. Brother/Half-brother as we have been told by husband's mum, Ellen (Ellen May, aka Nellie, aka May Ellen) was Walter Gregory (strong possibility of Walter Neville Gregory, deceased) Any info very very much appreciated as hitting a brick wall here. ThankS
What a great site to research all my ancestors. I have Mahonys (many brushmakers and a few cutlers thrown in here and there along with some dentists), and I'm just starting to do a little more research on the Baker side (She married into the Mahony family, but her family is from Sheffield. This site helps expedite all the research needed to connect everyone. Thanks a bunch

Nearly all my family and half my husband's family are from Sheffield area. It is so difficult to get past the 1959 barrier and this site is helpful. My grandparents Joseph Wardley and Ann Ellis are here. Guest no 16 Ann Wardley from Canada - we must be related

Dorothy was born in Ecclesall Bierlow abt. 1901. In the 1940 census she was living on Bannerdale Road. She was married to Horace Howe in 1945 but divorced in 1961. I would be grateful for any information.
Have been searching for the burial of my great great great grandfather who was the licensee of Black Lion on Snig Hill. (UK City & County Directories 1766-1989 "Monkhouse John, victualler and spirit merchant, Black Lion, 3 Snig Hill") He must have died after the birth of his daughter Emma in 1968 and before the census of 1978 when his widow Sarah is living at 12 Regent Terrace, Sheffield with three of her children. Any information greatly appreciated.
