In the 1960's a lady called Mrs Orme, set up The Hillsiders Youth Club which met every Friday in the W.I.Hall in Lebanon Gardens. It got a lot of support from the local youth and also from those of Westerham. This lovely lady also organised a carnival, whose Queen was picked from the members. Sadly Mrs Orme left the area and the Biggin Hill Social Club became the venue. I believe one David Bowie played in a group at a Youth Club dance in his teens.
I’m looking for information on Elizabeth Green and her father William Walter Green. Elizabeth was born in Rotherhithe about 1943. On 4 June 1967 she married James Barker at the Parish Church of St Olave, Southwark. James came from West Dereham, Norfolk and the couple moved back there to live. William Walter Green is described as a mariner on the marriage certificate, but that's all I know about him. I can't find him or Elizabeth in the 1841 or 1851 censuses. Although James and Elizabeth stayed in West Dereham, their daughter Agnes married Benjamin Hadad Humphreys from Rotherhithe and moved there to live

I would be most appreciative if some kind person would take a photo of the Victorian House at 14 Banstead Street, Peckham. It would be just great to see where my ancestors lived!

Hi everyone - I have this family photo but only know a few people in it. My granddad is the second man on the far right of the picture and my nan is standing behind him holding a baby (my mum). My granddad's elder sister Ethel is in the back row on the far right and I think she has her arm around her husband, Sidney Murrell. I am trying to find out who got married - I have tried his other sister Frances and sent for the marriage certificate only to find out it is not the right one. I am now trying to find out if it is his elder brother Charles who got married - I know it is around the 1943 time because of the age of my mum in the photo (she was born on 16.10.1941). I have looked up a few marriages for Charles Jones on freebmd and wonder if anyone would be able to look to see if Charles Jones' father is called Thomas William Jones in any of them. Here are the details of some of the Charles Jones marriages around that time (as I said before the family lived around the Peckham Camberwell area so I am assuming it would have been around there. If anyone could please help I would be very grateful. Thank You
Can anyone else decipher this address? I've tried looking at street maps and googled variations on this address, but I'm stumped. Perhaps the street no longer exists. It was handwritten on the side of a Certificate of 1968 to register my great grandmother at school. The family lived in the Camberwell area of London by 1978. Any help greatly appreciated

In case you haven’t heard, Aris and Maria of Cruson are retiring and the shop has been sold. They took over the shop in 1971—or at least, Aris think so, but nobody’s really sure. And they’ve been a pretty much permanent fixture on Church Street ever since.
When they came to Camberwell the area had a lot of Cypriot immigrants who’d moved over here in the 1960s—so many that the area was informally known as ‘Little Cyprus’. Even today there’s Sophocles bakery, Vineyard Greek Taverna, St Mary’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral; when I first moved here back in the mid-90s there was also another Greek Taverna on the corner of Camberwell Grove, and Tadim cafe on Church Street, and Paul’s Continental Olive Shop. And there was Cruson.
Everybody knows Cruson. The shop with its green awning, and its racks of fruit, vegetables, flowers, and plants on the street, and its interior a time-capsule of a high street long since gone. It’s a local landmark, appearing in much art and photography.

Samuel John Phillips age 25 died in Sept 1946 and his wife Mary Ann Phillips(nee Robinson)age 26, died a month earlier.I suspect they both died from cholera. Does anyone have any information on this Rotherhithe couple (and their children),who I cannot find in the 1971 census
In the 1961 Census for Rotherhithe Surrey England (8, Elephant Lane, Rotherhithe St Olave Southwark, Surrey RG11 piece 576 folio 24 page 42 ', 'N', 'A',0,0,0,'5760130')it states that Alfred James Cook - son - was aged 12 years. This was my grandfather and I know he was born 1880 so it should have been 12 months or 1 year. Has anybody got a copy of the actual entry where age could be checked please? Also looking for details of the child William Cook named in the same household aged 5 years. I had no idea there may have been another child in this family at this time. There was another child born abt 1967, Richard Charles Cook. Any info would be apreciated. Thanks
