have the option for people to earn more 'free' articles for doing the work of rewriting the gibberish that often comes up in the auto scan
It would be great if you had an option for people to 'earn' more free access for doing the work of re-transcribing the scanned articles, many of which are not just slightly inaccurate but total gibberish.
You could have an easy system (they do this on Wikipedia, for instance) where there is a list of articles that need to be properly transcribed and users just go through them to earn 'points' that can be converted into access. (So, for e.g. transcribe 3 articles, get access to 3 more pages etc). You would just need to check the first few to…

I have been trying to narrow my search of publications of 'The Times' newspaper,
Request for assistance!!!! How do I persuade your search engine to a) Open up the section or narrow my search to the 'Times' newspaper?
And b) if I press the 'Help' button, why doesn't it direct me to a 'Help' section, rather than a 'Feedback' section?1 vote -
Searching countries
You have now added two (at least) Indian newspapers but there is no way of searching India in "Publication Place" or even under country.
Similarly it would be useful to be able to select England, Wales etc in "Publication Place", you have to start a search then select under country but cannot do this for India.

Improve transcriptions
I cannot copy and paste articles so I have to use the transcription instead. I cannot understand how, in this day and age, the transcription can be so ridiculously incorrect.

Missing search items
Why is it that sometimes when I do a search I can't find the item in the results?
For instance I searched for the the phrase "Nantwich Union" in 1825 and got this result:
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1820-01-01/1829-12-31?basicsearch=%22nantwich%20union%22%20&phrasesearch=nantwich%20union&exactsearch=false&retrievecountrycounts=false&sortorder=scorebut the term Nantwich Union doesn't appear in the result:

OCCASIONAL POOR QUALITY OF DIGITALLY SCANNED IMAGES
Whoever checks the quality of the final scanned image prior to release needs to pay more attention to the detail because, in numerous instances, the reproduction quality is so feint that it is impossible for it to be read either in the digital interpretation or by the human eye.
Because of this, I have missed the opportunity to read several articles of interest and, to the best of my knowledge after searching the HELP categories, there is no facility for the user to report these page issues.4 votes -

Pin newspapers to specific people
I had an idea, what if you could pin pages to people, like say you want to filter articles about a less known specific person, not on the level of like presidents, but say criminals or war heroes, etc. if you could tag that person and the system would give them a unique indexing number and profile that users could link pages to, add descriptions to, etc. kind of like how Ancestry links documents to profiles of specific people.

Ability to sort bookmarked articles
It would improve this site immeasurably if it were possible to sort bookmarked articles by date of publication (or source) once they have been saved into a folder.
At present there is no way of organising articles once they have been bookmarked, except by moving them between folders. This makes any sort of chronological research incredibly difficult. It would not be difficult to introduce a 'sort by' field in the bookmarks page, given that the date metadata already exists.

Old English grammatical question
Not an idea, really. If a person edits a column from the 18th century and is confronted with f instead of s, should we use f, or the up to date s.
e.g. Douglafs. I would like to confidently change the f' because it would accidently reduce the search field left in it's old English type, what do you think?2 votes -
