The Evesham Jounal along with The Cotswold Journal is a very valuable resource to the Vale of Evesham and beyond. The newspaper which was produced weekly initially in two editions, was eagerly awaited by my great grand parents in the 19th Century and to my grand parents in the early 29th Century.
Its full digitization is long overdue. -

As far as I can discover from Evesham Library, they are the only holders of microfilmed copy. However, their microfilm viewer is ancient and it is impossible to print readable copies from it.

There are at least three posted suggestions for Evesham Journal. Can they be combined?

Digitising the Evesham Journal would enable Bretforton History Group - our fledgling local history group in the Vale of Evesham - to discover more about our village's lives, loves and losses in the context of its market gardening history, with the photographs putting faces to the names on monuments and in records. The digitisation of the Evesham Journal will enable Bretforton History Group to flourish, and create greater connections with local villages and people in the Vale.

On behalf of members of The Badsey Society, based in the Vale of Evesham, I would like to lend my support to the digitisation of “The Evesham Journal”, also previously known as, “The Evesham Journal and General Advertiser for Pershore, Alcester, Bidford, Broadway, Campden and the Surrounding District” and later “The Evesham Journal & Four Shires Advertiser”. The Journal covers an important region of the Midlands and is a wonderful resource for societies such as ourselves. We have often referred to The Journal when undertaking research for the books we have produced.

The Evesham and General Advertiser was established 21 July 1860.
Its title was changed to the Evesham Journal and Four Shires
Advertiser in 1883. From 1984 it was known as the Evesham
Journal. -

It has been a paper of record for a long time in the center of the country. It is of particular interest in documenting the Horticultural Industry in the area, the technological innovation and market drivers behind the tremendous change over the years.

The Journal gives a continuous record of life in this important market town for well over a century, showing the effect of developments - motorisation, railways etc - on the rural economy and the response of the population to two world wars.
