Hi. I used to live my Mum (Ruth) Dad (Reg) and younger brother (Leslie) in Crewys Road from about 1967-8. We left at short notice in 1968 or thereabouts. My Mum, brother and I thought we were coming back but this did not feature in my Dad’s plans! We left when I was about 8 but think I attended John Donne School.
I would love to catch up with my friends around at the time. I used to hang about with my bestie Carolyn across the road and Desmond and Brendon Reardon(?) whose Mum we rented the flat in Number 45 from. My Mum was gutted we never returned so it would be lovely to tell her I’ve found some people who remember u

We currently lag Miles behind in coverage compared with West London, without calling you biased I’d say you were how about adding the East London Advertiser or Hackney Gazette?

Hello could anyone shred light on the real name of the man who used these alaises in 1930's, they were george j fletcher, george/william parker, george (ginger) fletcher. E.P Edgar, David brian ST.Clair, and Patrick Mackenzie, and george williams. one of these may be his real name or he may have another different, i do know he was in portsmouth prison in Dec 1934 serving a sentance for stealing and forging cheques, his prison no was 902. and he was about southwark and harrow road and all london as he got about, girl friend or wife was violet. he had a scar or mole on his forehead, spoke in rough speech, and stood about 5.6in then. He may have had in his sentance some kind of reformary. He also had a friend called henry james lee alias henry fletcher, the child betty of violets was said to have a father with the surname of knight.violet was known at the lambeth girls refuse, salamanca house, randell road, lambeth in the early 1930.s after march 1934 no trace of her.
Can anyone help me or know of where these people are please, any info would be greatfully recieved. -

I was born in Hadleigh in the 1940's at what was 5 London Road, the flat over my Dad's shop, Ross Shoe Repairs. I wonder if many people remember the shop now. I migrated to Australia in 1966 and have not been back as yet. I do not think I would recognise the Hadleigh I was born in, went to school at Hadleigh School and grew up in. From what I can see of photos etc. it is not the attractive village type town it used to be. If anyone wishes to contact me by email I would be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers my Dad, Jim Ross and the shop

My father was born in Hornchurch and lived in Hadleigh. For many years in Ash Road. He served as a volunteer Fireman at Hadleigh from about 1959. From about 1969 he moved to Canvey Island as a full time fireman during the war and his work involved being a dispatch rider.
He played football for the station team and has medals for their success.
Unfortunately I do not have dad's service number so can not trace him through Essex Fire and Rescue Service.
I believe that I must have relatives in the Essex area but again have no details.
I would love to hear from anyone who may remember dad, either personally or from work.
Dad was William Light known as Billy or Sonny by friends and family. He was born in 1950.

My father was born in Meeting House Lane in 1901 on the day Queen Victoria died. He was very fond of ice cream and told me of an Italian ice cream seller – called Califano, who sold ice cream from a horse and cart.
We went to the pictures at the Tower cinema in Rye Lane and to the Gaumont when it first opened. Another place I went was the Ideal cinema in Queen’s Road. There was also a picture house, where Mum took me with a bottle of water, at a place that later became the Peckham Odeon. The films were silent and a piano player accompanied the films!
Later we moved to Brockley. My Dad used to do shift work, and when he came off at 6 a.m. he collected me for an early morning swim. We went to the open-air pool on Peckham Rye. One day I jumped in; there was a thin layer of ice on the water. My muscles froze; I just managed a struggled width, but later hot tea and toast put things right

Like many who live or have lived in Hadleigh
was saddened to see the Waggon & Horses go but must admit the new building looks impressive and does blend in to a certain extent.
