The Star in the East
Radical newspaper published in Wisbech, involved in early Co-operative movement. The newspaper was founded in September 1836 by James Hill (father of Octavia Hill, social reformer and founder of the National Trust), a prominent Wisbech businessman, reformer, and follower of the utopian socialist Robert Owen. It served as a vehicle for Owenite ideas, women's rights, and working-class reform.
