I would like to suggest The Scottish Highlander for future digitisation.

Please note this is a distinct publication from John Murdoch's The Highlander (1873 to 1881). Alexander Mackenzie launched The Scottish Highlander in Inverness on 17 July 1885, and the weekly paper ran until 1898.

The newspaper served as a vital campaigning platform for Highland land reform. It advocated for crofters' rights and provided extensive coverage of the Highland Land League alongside the political campaigns of Charles Fraser-Mackintosh. Adding this title to the British Newspaper Archive would give historians and genealogists an invaluable primary source for late nineteenth-century Highland politics and society.

Inverness Library currently holds the complete run on microfilm, and the National Library of Scotland also lists the publication in its collections. I hope the BNA team will consider sourcing and adding this important Highland newspaper.

Alexander Mackenzie launched The Scottish Highlander as a weekly newspaper in Inverness on 17 July 1885. The publication ran until 1898. Mackenzie used the paper as a political platform to advocate for crofters' rights and to campaign against the involvement of landlords and the government in emigration schemes. The newspaper firmly supported the land reform movement and allied itself closely with Charles Fraser-Mackintosh, the Member of Parliament for Inverness County.

Researchers occasionally confuse this publication with John Murdoch's earlier newspaper, The Highlander, which operated in Inverness from 1873 to 1881. They were entirely separate ventures run by different editors.

John Murdoch's Highlander would be another great one to add, there is only one edition of it on the BNA.
