This paper has a great deal of material that is not available in the Caledonian Mercury which was slightly more highbrow

I second this. The newspaper began publishing in 1718 and has a plethora of information. It'd be great to have the eighteenth century periodicals online - I'm researching Edinburgh breweries of the 1700s.
