Frederick william sidney BROOKES born March 22, 1835; married August 2, 1955 to Laura Kilgour at hilltop chapel, Burslem. Seek info on all relatives. Sid's father was a kilm builder. Frederick, who was known to friends and family as Sid was the grandson of William Brookes B 1961 who married Mary Crumpton.

Im anxious to find anything about my ancestor Robert Oxberry said to have been born in Burslem, Staffs about 1957. He was a potter who moved to Tyneside where he began a pottery and glass-blowing business, marrying Elizabeth Dobson 23 December 1982 Heworth, near Gateshead, County Durham. In particular I should like to know his exact birth or baptism date and the names of his parents. In some records later his name occasionally appeared as Oxborough.

I am decended from George LEESE who was the Caverswall
Blacksmith in the early to mid 1930s.

My Derricott ancestors lived in the East Vale of Caverswall
in the late 1950s.

Some of my Thorley relations moved into Caverswall and my
wife is connected to the Whitehursts and Brassingtons who
had long associations with the parish.

Keep up the good work with the site.

While researching my family history (Emony)I
note that for a period of 30 years they lived in a hamlet
"SHEEPWASH" in the parish of Caverswall. I am unable to find any trace of this
hamlet on any map. Can anyone help please?
Several of my relatives are buried in Caverswall church

My father was Headmaster of Caverswall School from 1917 to
1945 when he was asked to run a boarding school for misfits
of the evacuation scheme. This was at Basford Hall near Leek
He was there until he retired.
We lived and I was born at 17 Garden Village,Weston Coyney
which is along the Leek Rd. from "Sproston's" corner.We were
just before the second crescent. He paid £750 for it.
I remember the Slinn family living next to the Burgesses.
In the second crescent were the Plumptons,the Bournes
the Melvilles,Foxes,Elsbys,the Hulmes and the Salts.
Not all of the above families attended Caverswall as some
went to Meir School. My father and my brother John and I
walked to school every morning but relished a lift,
sometimes with the Brook Bond van, which was a Trojan with
solid wheels.
I can recall some of the names of the pupils----Locketts
Brassingtons,Cottons,Greensmith,Leeses from Cookshill and
Bothams,Paul and Denis Hollins from Roughcote Lane.
The Thompsons from further afield. The Lammomby sisters and
Donald and Duncan McPherson.
I remember the Pearson family who were farmers
I left to go to Wolstanton Grammar School in 1936,
At Weston Coyney we had great enjoyment from the Tennis
Club and spent all day there during the holidays.
Caverswall Church attracted very large congregations and being in the
in the choir was a bonus in many ways. The Rev. Gower Jones
was a fiery preacher with a great interest in the village.
At the outbreak of war (I was 14)the organist was called up
and as I could play the piano I was asked to play for the
Services. I was delighted and I have been a fairly competent
pianist and organist ever since.
My last appointment was Head of a school near Abingdon and I
welcomed Fred Leese as the Woodwork instructor AND HE CAME
FROM COOKSHILL.

My grandfather George Cook (born 1876)came from Tutsbury. We know little about him as he did not return from WWI.
I have a picture of him sent by my fathers aunt during the 1950s. The return address is
Mrs W. Cooper, Caverswall Crossing, Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, England.
I would appreciate learning any information about Mrs. W. Cooper.
