Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

I had a quick look at your website, it's looking great, will be having a good read through later. I'm just going to show my sons the photos from the 'Hollywood Music Festival'! I can remember it so well - it was a scorching hot weekend and I had really wanted to go, but as I was only 12 my parents said TOO YOUNG!!!!! However my cousins came to visit and we sat in our garden and watched from a distance through binoculars! Of course it was so loud that we could hear everything - I remember Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" being the hit of that summer.

My comment is that I was really pleased to stumble accross such a site that looks back on the history of a village that my ancestors were born in ,i thought it was just a peice of forgotten history these days - obviously not!!
I have found Leycett Online extremely helpful towards my research into the Hollywood Music Festival and I would like to thank you for all the help you gave me on this subject and also in confirming a few facts about Harrison Woodburn Cottages for me,I would never of managed it without your help, thanks again and ill certainly keep in touch and keep my eye out for updates on the site.
FABULOUS!!!!! -

I well remember delivering 'Sentinels' to Blythe House, the Bennions were in occupation then and I was once taken up the tower for a wonderful view of Blythe Bridge. the Marsh and Forsbrook. They owned all the land around the house right down to Chapel street.
On the corner of Stallington lane there was a yard there which was a stonemason's yard and gravestones were made there. In fact, a lot of gravestones in the church came from there. Just a little higher up was a blacksmith's shop run by Harry Wright, who was taught by my father. Opposite him was Lymer's the coachman. They had a hearse which they used to hire out although they were not undertakers. One of the first cars was owned by them-a Ford- and I remember seeing old Lymer himself and George, his son, driving. Later they had a coach or rather a brake and two horses which took us kids on a Sunday School outing. All round Cheadle, Tean and back again. Then the Lymers moved on to buses. -

Starting at Ford's farm and I think the Farm has been in the occupation of the Fords for well over 100 years- I well remember old Mrs Ford. As you go up Grindley lane there wasn't a house after Ford's at all until you got to Birkholme drive. There was a house at the end of the drive and another opposite plus two semi-detached cottages which have been knocked down now. They were demolished when Grindley lane was widened-it used to be a very, very narrow road. On the right hand side from the bottom of Grindley lane the first house was Allerton's, then Herbert Aynsley's, then Williamson's; then Hudson's - Sutherland House. They were all Potters. After that was Grindley Cottage where Salome Dainton lives.

Im looking for information on John Elijah Kember who lived at 13 Packett Street, Fenton until his death 31st July 1977. He had been a colour Sergeant with the 43rd Oxford Light Infantry of Fenton and left behind a widow 'Elizabeth Kember' Could anybody suggest which local newspapers from the time I could search for a death announcement or how I could search local cemeteries for his burial? I would also be interested in finding out more about the 43rd Oxford Light Infantry of Fenton Kind Regards

Richard is my Great Uncle I think. Its a big family!I have done quite a lot of research, and have photographs of Richard and his brother William's shop but not the sweet shop. He was affectionately, and irreverently known as "Toffee Dick" by some younger members of the family!

m looking for relatives of Goerge Wright who married Nellie Allbrighton in polesworth in 1914. George was my great grandfather. My grandmother born 1945 thinks george comes from newcastle under Lyme . He had 3 brothers and possably 2 sisters. all 4 brothers died in ww1. I have a copy of his marriage cerificate where the witnesses are Frank and Eliza Bingham. My grandmother thinks Eliza might be his sister although it appears she was called Birkin at the time of her marriage, (half sister perhaps)His father is John Wright Miner on the certificate. I cant find George Wright on the Census records but it is thought he ran away to join the merchant navy when he was 14
