Barrow was a key town in the industrial revolution, has a long history of shipbuilding and engineering and the paper has been in circulation since the late 1800s so contains a wealth of local history as well as that linked to the wider world through the shipbuilding carried on. As predominantly a working class town to have access to the paper would be of great value to social historians and genealogists.

BJ is correct. From humble beginnings, Barrow became a huge industrial centre during the 19th c. Interesting its climb and later decline.

Barrow was a boom town in the late 1800s and it would be good to read about its industrial and social development in real time, day by day.
