Im interested in any information on the Perseverance Iron Foundry, Burley. This was run by my 4 * great grandfather John Whitham until his death in 1933. Then by his sons Stephen and Joseph until 1950, when Joseph and his son John took over. Stephen went on to form Monk Bridge iron works. John died in 1941followed by his father in 1960 when the business was taken over by his younger son Joseph and was eventually sold to Greenwood and Batley in 1961. I am particularly interested in whether there are any remains of the original iron foundry still in existence. Apparently a rail connection to the GNR was introduce in 1956 of which there may still be traces.

Ive quite recently discovered that I may have Leeds ancestry! Quite an honour I think!

It has only taken since the 1960s and the assistance of a contact in Australia with access to the latest census to get to this point, .

There are a few bits of info that may help me advance so I will be very grateful for any assistance available or pointers.

I need to know about a photo album manufacturer, "Halmac" Halliday & Co of Holbeck Lane, Leeds, I believe arround 1900 or earlier.

Also the names, Fleming: Grubb: Grubb Fleming: Hirst: Grieg: and Hirst Grieg: Any existing families of these names also.

The street names also, do they still exist and where are they,I couldn't find on Google. : Dennison Street, Leeds 1934. also if it falls in the area of interest of the forum: Braeston?? St, Bradford 1940?

I appreciate this is a big ask for a newcommer, but I really do want to confirm my ancestry in Leeds.

Recently moved to the area and love all the history around us. I've recently started doing a lot of research on our local history of the Coal Mines and the Robin Hood Station and railways located very close to my house.

I was brought up in Wrenthorpe / Outwood and went to school in both so had many friends from Outwood / Wrenthorpe /Kirkhamgate / and Alverthorpe . The pictures from all the areas always bring back memories of my childhood .Much appreciated .

I lived in Outwood from birth up to 1972 when I moved to Morley. My father had a bicycle shop on Leeds Rd which is now a hair and beauty salon. I went to Ledger lane school and then QEGS in Wakefield. I have many fond memories of the village such as Saturday matinee film shows at the Outwood Empire (6 old pence), cycling and rambling around the footpaths between Newton Hill and Ouchthorpe lane, playing footy on the 'rec' near what is now Victoria Way, Alf Hallas delivering milk around the village with his horse and cart (no bottles, he ladled it from churns into our own jugs), dipping for sticklebacks in the pond off Grey St, fish and chips from Annies (still the same name I see), collecting empties and taking them back to the jug and bottle door at the Queen to collect the deposits, delivering papers all over the village for Sykes newsagents, I could go on and on. I was born in Lofthouse, in Wrights fold, which ran east from Leeds Road at the South side of the wagon road.My sister Joan, is the May queen shown in your Lofthouse remembered photos. She married Bernard Marshall. He was the man who hawked vegetables and fruit from the horse and wagon shown in your photos. Bernard bought the business from Frank Wrigley who lived in Westgate, along side the footpath which ran from School Lane and alongside the Nancy fields
