Improve OCR correction interface & editing usability for smoother user contributions
Hello everyone — and thanks to the team for running this feedback forum.
I’d like to share some observations and suggestions about the OCR correction / text editing experience on the site, based on recent use:
Issues I’ve encountered:
While correcting OCR text, after saving each change I’m often taken back to the top of the article, losing my place in the middle of editing.
For long articles or pages, the performance slows significantly as I type edits, making it frustrating to correct many lines in one session.
The interface forces line-by-line editing rather than letting me see context or navigate within paragraphs more freely.
In some cases, multiple errors in a sentence require many separate saves, rather than more flexible batch corrections.
My suggestions / ideas:
Allow in-place editing or a “scroll lock” so saving doesn’t reset the view to the top.
Optimize performance so editing remains smooth even in long texts (e.g. use incremental saves, minimize re-rendering).
Offer a multi-line edit mode or paragraph mode (not just line by line) for more coherent corrections.
Add a keyboard shortcut (e.g. Ctrl + S) or autosave draft to reduce disruptions.
Provide an “undo last change” feature in case of mistakes.
If others here have similar frustrations with OCR editing, I’d love to hear your experiences. Also, if moderators or devs could comment on whether these sorts of enhancements are being considered, that would be great to know.
Thanks for listening, and thanks for building this rich archive — improving the editing workflow would make user contributions much more inviting.
