Newspapers we should add next
Tell us what publications would be of most use to you. You can be as general (Victorian cycling magazines) or specific (South Wales Argus) as you wish! We take on board all of your suggestions but are bound by copyright restrictions and our agreements with publishers, these form the boundaries of what we may publish online.

St. James's Gazette: An Evening Review and Record of News (1880–1905)
This paper's contributors included J. M. Barrie (helping him make his name), Edmund Gosse, Sidney Low, and Margaret Oliphant. I constantly find it cited for reviews of late-Victorian books, but I have a lot of trouble finding the reviews and reading them.

Hartland Chronicle
This paper covered Western Devon and North Cornwall with local detail not included in the Western Morning News, Connishman & Cornish Telegraph, Devon & Exeter Gazette and Western Times (and others). OK, so there are already a lot of papers covering the South West, but perhaps you can squeeze in just one more?

add West Somerset Free Press
It would be great to have the West Somerset Free Press added, very little coverage of this remote part of the country at present.

Leigh Chronicle
Exceptional Lancashire newspaper very rich in historical content c/w special detailed feature sections on local industries and historical contributions by local historians. Also has an annual 'Diary of Local Events' which lists the key events of the previous year. I've spent hundreds of hours reading this publication and can vouch for it as being essential local reading. It ran from c. 1857 until the early 1960's.

Aberdeen Herald
This would be a fine complement to Aberdeen Journal, giving a different political stance.

Hi,
Thank you for the suggestion. We have investigated this title and have some good news for you – Bridport News fits with our criteria and The British Library have sufficient holdings! We have now added it to our lengthy digitisation plan for the years 1856-1871. We have had to limit to 1871 due to current copyright restrictions with the rightsholder.Keep an eye on our newsletters and social media pages for updates on titles which are newly added to the British Newspaper Archive – i.e. truly hot off the digital press!

Add Halifax Yorkshire papers please !
Add C19th and early c20th Halifax West Yorkshire pages - Halifax Courier and Halifax Guardian - this area went through massive changes in the industrial revolution and there is a large centre of population here missing from the archives.

Volunteer Service Gazette
Volunteer Rifle Corps were established in 1859 due to perceived threat of French invasion. The movement was not expected to last but by 1888 there were over 220,000 members. Great reviews took place and rifle tournaments were widely reported and patronised by Royalty. Volunteer Rifle Corps are the forerunners of the Territorial Army. Battalion records are scattered around the country. The "Volunteer Service Gazette" was the service newspaper but copies are scare.
Making the "Volunteer Service Gazette" available on line would do family, local and military historians a great service in gaining access to a rich but largely untouched source…

Nottingham Gazette
A short-run regional newspaper between 1813-1815 that was notorious for countering the rival Nottingham Review. I understand the BL has the full run of this paper.
