Hinckley newspapers
Hinckley Times, Hinckley Journal
Be great if you could add all the old Hinckley newspapers as it’s a slow painful experience to have to keep going to the Library and going through the old micro phise to find out information.

Many, many people from Hinckley and the surrounding villages have loved the Hinckley Times for many years. It's pages through time are part of our local heritage. Please, please consider digitising it so we can look back with interest and research our local history in a really meaningful way.

The Hinckley Times has been the sole newspaper for the town and surrounding rural areas since the late 19th century. It has reflected the growth of the town and the growth and expansion of the hosiery and knitwear industry in the town, and the subsequent decline of those industries. As such it provides a valuable insight into the changes in British industry in a specific area

Please consider digitizing The Hinckley Times. Its contribution to the local area since the late 1880's has been second to none. Sadly it no longer has offices in the town. This would be a vital asset to have the back editions (of which I have seen in their archive) to be made available to those that wish to use this valuable resource. Also before some of these back editions go past being able to digitise as some of them are already i a very poor state.

The Hinckley Times covers a wide area. The Hinckley and Bosworth Borough is over 105,000 people... not to mention all those families who have moved away from the area who would be interested in researching their Family History, like myself. There is so much that I cannot access via newspapers that predominantly deal with Leicester city.

I only know of one copy of any filmed archive for the Hinckley Times and that sits on microfilm in Hinckley Library - so goodness knows how long it is going to survive and be accessible. Dating from 1887 it really needs copying across to a more secure archive. There is no copy in our county archive in Wigston, Leicester.
