I’m trying to remember a story from probably the early 1980’s. A local guy, Brian Alfred (?) who owned or ran Sound it Out record store in Stockton. He went on a long and convoluted motorcycle ride on a whim and ended up out in the middle East somewhere (I think!)
Not too sure of the full details but would love to reacquaint myself with the story again. There was a Gazette piece on him at the time when he finally resurfaced. Anyone remember?
My uncle, Pilot Officer Henry Dryden was killed on 27th March 1942 as a result of a night-time aircraft accident at Thornaby Airfield, I think in a Hudson. He is buried at Thornaby Cemetery. I am trying to find out exactly what happened. I have his wartime personal trunk and other details on war graves etc. I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about this.
More vivid recollections please
Need more info on the ICI factory of Stockton

Morning, I’m researching a grade 2 listed building in Hartburn village and was wondering if anyone had any information. The property is 39, 41 & 43 Hartburn village. I’ve checked the national archives but all they have on there is a brief description of the building and not much else. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, I am searching for my family on my mother’s side, she was a Robinson, from Stockton-on-Tees (Norton), and had her mother Phyllis (Green) and Brian Robinson, and grandmother Florence and Grandfather George Green. I am trying to locate Florence’s maiden name. She died 1989 and was born around 1927 aged 62. Does anyone have any information on this family tree?
Hi, I was wondering if you may have any pictures from between 1968 to 1973 from Ian Ramsey secondary modern, I’m trying to gather pictures together for my mum so she can reminisce as she doesn’t have many pictures from her past. She had a best friend at the time called Lena Fletcher (who may have a different surname now) and we are desperately trying to find her as my mum would love to get in touch. My mums name is Linda Rigby.
Hi, I’m trying to find any information on John and Christina McGuinness, who lived in Kingston Street, Stockton in the 1950s. I cannot find Christina’s maiden name or a marriage. Just wondered if any information on this family
I’m wondering if you can help me. I left an original post on the website for information on the Commercial Inn, Norton Road on January 9th 2017 and received replies from two of your conributors within a month confirming its existence (albeit named the Commercial Tavern).
Thinking that was the end of it, I did not check for further comment until this Christmas time. I now see that some months later a Mr D. Proctor lodged a further post that I had never picked up. As this person is an unknown relative and as my response has been so late, I wonder if you could alert him to the fact that I have belatedly replied and give him my email address so that he can contact me, if he so wishes.
Thanks in anticipation

I was reading the report about kirkleatham Hall Stables.
I would like to let you know i have information on just why the stable have not been renovated.
Its not as odd as it sounds. Work was due to commence quite sometime ago to renovate it (not sure to what) but on a site inspection it was found that the lofting area of the stables was full of a nest of bats. It is estimated that the colony is around 2000 strong.
Good to see the photos of the old mine workings in Errington Woods, we enjoyed a very interesting and informative walk there recently, led by Simon Chapman the author of the book “Upleatham Ironstone Mine”.
There are several plaques around New Marske giving historical details, a photographic record of those may be of interest. Also…I notice that part of the Lifeboat station at South Gare has been demolished recently…..will it still be there in the future?
My Ggrandfather, William Parish, was a blast furnaceman, designated a superman as he was immensly strong and supposedly earned £1 a day in 1937. He worked for Farnley Ironworks and like you I am trying to find out more about this Ironworks as some more of my relatives worked there.
I found one of my relatives on a census and it looked as though he lived perhaps in cottages as pages and pages of the census were designated ‘Farnley Iron Works’.
In Den Helder, Netherlands we are restoring a former steam/sailing gunboat of the Netherlands Navy the “Bonaire”. She was launched in 1927. Her iron or steel deckbeams were made by Hopkins & Co, Middlesbro. The characters are rolled in relief on the beams. If you are interested I can send you some photos.
Do you know some facts about the Hopkins plant?
