Newspapers from Grenada
Grenada only has one public library in St. George's, their archives are being destroyed by the elements and there is little funding to preserve the precious heritage within. Insight into Little Island's past can be taken from the newspapers preserved through digitization, however these items are also out of reach for many Grenadians, and those with familial ties to Grenada, being cost prohibitive or requiring a library with access to special subscriptions. For example, the only access to the topmost newspapers is via academic institutions or subscriptions (expensive paywalls). While I am a paying member of the BNA, it would be a great gift for the British Newspaper Archive to allow "Free to View" access to at least some of the below issues.
The Grenada Free Press and Public Gazette (from 1839-1840)
The St. George’s Chronicle and Gazette (from 1839-1907)
The below papers are also available, however I cannot find them and am uncertain whether they exist in digital form.
The Grenada Phoenix (from 1864-1865)
The Weekly Record (from 1865-1865)
The Grenada Reporter (from 1867-1867)
Excelsior! (from 1876-1876)
The New Era (from 1878-1880)
The Equilibrium (from 1882-1887)
The Grenada People (from 1883-1908)
Daily Tidings (from 1886-1886)
Thank You,
Ruth Bunbury Skiba-Otway
Unfortunately, the British Library do not appear to have these titles within their collection. We are unable to source this material from alternative holdings.
