Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

I used to answer the phones on Sportsround Saturday radio stoke in about 1984 to 86, and remember the place and people with fond memories. Wish there was a way to hear the old Sue Manning Music and the later Chris Ellis jingles.
I also remember during the National Garden Festival, BBC World Service's Outlook programme came from the festival studio, which I'd encouraged as my Dad was working at World Service. Radio Stoke were to provide a "news about stoke" insert, which had to be recorded in 1A, and the tape whisked to the festival for broadcast as lines were hard to set up. The lead story was a bomb scare at Crewe station, however as we were going down in the lift, we heard it had been a hoax, and the station was open, a very quick edit was made to the end to say it was a hoax, as there was no time to re-record, so Radio Stoke speaking to the world was a little out of date!
I also remember helping the engineering team under Simon Penfold, and an engineer whose name I can't remember, designing the SODIT (Studio Operated Device for Insert Timing) which was a BBC Micro, bar code reader, and a bit of magic on a Mark III desk. I remember assisting with a little bit of computer program debugging on that very clever device, and widely adopted within Local Radio (I think).
Regards to all who might remember me. -

I started researching the National Garden Festival of 1986 back in 2009. As Stoke-on-Trent's biggest ever cultural regeneration project, the NGF was an example of many of the things I have been interested in and researching for the past 5 years or more. It looks at land reclamation in post-industrial cities, urban/landscape design, impact of culture and arts on regeneration, heritage, legacy etc. The fascination in many ways comes from the fact that this is a hidden and secret space in the middle of an urban conurbation

A few remnants remain -Capo, 1986, by Vincent Woropay, now installed in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent. This colossal brick head of Josiah Wedgwood was in storage for many years before being repositioned in 2009. It is now sited by Etruria Hall, previously the home of Josiah Wedgwood and close to the location of his 1769 pottery factory. Etruria Hall (which can be seen in the background) is now part of a hotel

I am a former resident of Stoke on Trent, born in Chesterton Jan. 1954 living and growing up in Talke Pits until my late folks migrated to Aus. in 1968.
I have many fond memories of growing up there and then moving to Aus.Even now aged 49 I still call that home, and Aus is the place I choose to live having two children born here.
I went to school at St Saviours primary school, and Sir David Mitchel school in Buttlane, then Clough Hall Comprehensive until moving to Aus in 1968.
Although life was not a bed of roses I have many fond memories of growing up, probably because life back then was at a more leisurely pace in comparison to the hectic lifestyle today. I remember as if it were yesterday the family home in Audley Road Talke Pits, and walking the five miles to the bus stop to catch the bus to school. The winters where it was fine in the morning leaving for school, and then the snow starting after lunch, and having to walk home because the bus was un! able to go up coal pit hill because of the snow on the road, and the great delight the next morning of being snowed in bcause the snow was up to the second storey window, of digging out the snow bound cars, and walking attop the drifted snow.
Something rarely seen hear in Aus. And all the memories of the times at school in year 3M back in 1968 while going to Clough Hall Comprehensive . Anyone still out there that went to Clough Hall in that year ?

I went to Stanfields after passing the 13+ in 1957 and was in the same class as Pete Williams, Mickey DeVille, Ivan Baker etc. I carried on studies at North Staffs Poly (HNC in Elec Eng)and, after doing a Student Apprenticeship with Midlands Electricity Board, went to CEGB Northern Project Group in Cheadle Hulme, designing DRAX Power Station, before returning to MEB (and its successor privatised reincarnations). At their HQ I became the System Design Manager and then the High Voltage Circuits Manager companywide before retiring in 2001. I have been married for 47 years, have two adult children (a schoolteacher and an airline pilot) and three grandsons. I would like to hear from any of my classmates.

Require more details on this fire from 1959- The Stage Newspaper reported on the fire in their 9th of June 1959 edition saying:- 'Fire, destroying the Royal, Hanley, in a three-hour blaze, on Thursday last, has deprived a community of 330,000 of its last professional theatre. Fred Peake, local bus service pioneer, who bought the Royal from a Potteries syndicate four years ago for £72,000, has assured our correspondent that he will "rebuild it, and be putting on shows at the earliest possible moment."

Looking for any information on Edward Roden, married to Agnes Artaud. I believe he had at 5 children - charles, john, wilfred, arthur (my father) and stella. I believe he came from warrington area originally but married agnes and moved to Stoke on Trent (probably Burslem). If you know of either Artauds or Rodens it would be great.
