Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

The address listed on the 1961 census for my ancestors sampson Hammonds (Hammerst) and Fanny is The Meir, Caverswall, Fenton, Staffs. There is no house number it just states The Meir can anyone shed any light on this please? It would be appreciated. Several generations of our family are from that particular area and I am interested in learning more.

Hello,
I am researching my family tree and the name Cooper of Caverswall has cropped up. I was wondering if anyone has information that they are happy to share on Ann Cooper born c 1980, married James Pakeman on the 25th November 1978 at Caverswall. I believe that they had 3 children - one named James.
I would like to congratulate you on the site - it is a brilliant idea and research tool.
Thank you

Can anyone recall a young army volunteer (Private, Auxiliary Territorial Service) by the name of Katherine Parkhill Carr.
She joined the service immediately at the outbreak of the war in 1939, sadly by the age of 21 she was lost her life at Cheadle.
I have been researching her life as she is buried in the cemetery here in Bures.
Her brother now into his 80`s, recalls her coffin arriving back in the village draped in the Union Jack.
Would be very pleased from anyone assist me and to pass the information on to her brother who is desperate to know the circumstances of her death The Sentinel
Possibly featured these events in the 1950s -

Brilliant website. Wife's family (Tams) came from in and around Caverswall. I proposed to her in the lane outside the Nunnery in the late 1960's.
Unfortunately the road names in the early census returns do not match any modern maps -directories.- Goddard St, Hope St and Meir Lane Grateful for any push in right direction the Sentinels of the 1960s would

What a nice trip down memory lane. I went to St Peters under headmistress Kathleen Rogers leaving around 1981. I lived in School Lane until 1996 when I left home. Nice to see so many familiar names, though I'm very dismayed at the recent housing 'developments' in what we were taught was a medieval village that would not succumb to the modern trend.
Be great to read the Sentinels from this bygone era
