Merseyside area - Liverpool and Wirral
There appears to be a lack of newspapers from the Merseyside areas of Liverpool and The Wirral. When can we expect to see more please.
As luck would have it, we have put in a request to look at adding the Wallasey & Wirral Chronicle – we will investigate what is available.

A very important newspaper for anyone interested in the history of Liverpool from mid to the end of the 18th century and the history of newspapers in merchant towns in England. Also the only one for Liverpool in the 18th century in the British Library with such a long run. (Quite a few issues are available on microfilm but are not digitized.)
So far for Liverpool in the 18th century there are only two Newspapers available online and those two only cover the years 1767, 1768 and 1795. If you want to research anything concerning Liverpool in the 18th century that is not sufficient.System number: 013898545
earlier Title: Williamson's Liverpool Advertiser and Mercantile Register vol.1.no.1-vol.4.no.171 (28 May 1756-31 Aug.1759);
Later Title: Billinge's Liverpool Advertiser and Marine Intelligencer no.1955-2423, 3194-3769 (6 Jan.1794-27 Dec.1802; 5 Jan.1818-1824; 5 Jan.1826-30 Dec.1828) -

I agree Andrew, I am trying to research 1921 when it appears numerous members of my family perished in a fire. Please could this gap be filled.

The lack of any Liverpool paper for this period is frustrating for someone like me researching early twentieth century British social history

There is a gaping hole in Liverpool coverage, and can only hope that digitization of Liverpool Daily Post for the non-war-years happens.

100% agree. This is a huge gap in a major city's history. Please may it become a priority.

Although the three main Liverpool newspapers are here - the Liverpool Daily Post, the Liverpool Echo, and the Liverpool Evening Express - there is in fact no newspaper coverage at all for the city for the period 1 January 1919 through to 31 December 1938. It would be splendid if this rather large gap could be filled.

Liverpool newspapers for the complete first half of 20th century. I am finding the gaps especially between WW1 & WW2 and after 1945 a problem with my family history.

Your request to digitise the Wallasey and Wirral Chronicle is misguided. This title is already on microfilm and therefore not in danger. Unlike the Wallasey New or indeed The Birkenhead News or Birkenhead Advertiser which covered the activities of a much larger conurbation and have no microfilm substitute available in the British Library. Surely these titles should take priority.
