Maybe it because Findmy past are mostly digitising from microfilm rather than from the original newspaper. So we get all the imperfections and often poor contrast from the old microfilm which is not of sifficient quality to allow the OCR to distinguish every word. A good opportunity lost to give us modern quality digitised repoductions and I would suggest, slightly dishonest.

Are you producing new good quality scans from the original newspapers in the BL collection or simply scanning the existing microfilms?

Your request to digitise the Wallasey and Wirral Chronicle is misguided. This title is already on microfilm and therefore not in danger. Unlike the Wallasey New or indeed The Birkenhead News or Birkenhead Advertiser which covered the activities of a much larger conurbation and have no microfilm substitute available in the British Library. Surely these titles should take priority.

I ordered the 1899 copy at the British Library but on receipt it was found to fragile to be read. Like wise the 1898 volume.

Local newspapers in such poor condition should be the highest priority for digitisation and preservation before they are lost to us forever.
