One of the Joy's of researching family trees is filling in the details of life and living behind the names and dates. The information that will be gained from such a local source, will be most interesting and enlightening.

It would be invaluable to family historians to have this date range included in the Gazette. So much local history was recorded about the town and it's people.

My uncle, Pilot Officer Henry Dryden was killed on 27th March 1942 as a result of a night-time aircraft accident at Thornaby Airfield, I think in a Hudson. He is buried at Thornaby Cemetery. I am trying to find out exactly what happened. I have his wartime personal trunk and other details on war graves etc. I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about this.

I am trying to find out if there are any online archives of the Middlesbrough Standard and The North Eastern Daily Gazette online anywhere.
I am trying desperately to search the careers of my great grandparents, both Music Hall Artistes living in Middlesbrough in 1941-1964, i have been told the most likely place I will possibly find them is in the local newspapers where i believe the bill for the local music halls would have been published. I am told these can be searched in London at the Newspaper Archives in Colindale but I wasn't sure if there may be archives in Middlesbrough also. Unfortunately I live in Worcestershire and work full time so so far I have been struggling.
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful.

I am hoping that someone might be able to help me to find photographs or information about the following shops in Middlesbrough, all of which were targeted by my light-fingered 3 x great grandmother who spent the last fifteen years of her life ( at least) in and out of Northallerton Gaol. The timescale is roughly 1950-1965
John Harrison - Pawnbroker, Bolckow Street
Jacob Levy - Pawnbroker
Maurice Levi
John Hedley & Co., Linthorpe Road
Wright and Archibald - Sussex Street
Lisney and Dickson
Thomas Longstaff Hall - not sure if this was a shop or a private individual, just that she stole his boots!
An unnamed draper's shop in Newport Road. What I really want of course is the candid shot of the shop doorway with a suspicious looking old woman lurking around the corner! But any photos or information at all would be great.
Thanks,

I’d like to see the articles referring to THE British Steel Gala which was one of the highlights in the Teesside calendar.
It started in the summer of 1977, when 20,000 people attended the first one at Redcar racecourse.
It featured a circus and fairground and a parade of decorated floats made by workers on various plants.
The event was born from an idea by then Teesside Works director David Ford and was designed for employees and their families.
More than 2,500 people of the workforce paid a monthly subscription to help fund it.
It became hugely popular with displays ranging from camel racing to motorcycle stunt teams, family fun from tug of war to It's A Knockout style challenges and music from the works' brass band.
The float parade was always a crowd pleaser.
Every year, men across the different works designed and built their own creations to display on the backs of lorries.
It later became known as the Teesside Steel Gala.
