My grandmother was selina brooks born 1912 in hunslet to Elizabeth brooks and William Pearson (unmarried, as William was separated from wife Ann Shellam). Selina married John Johnson in Armley in 1945 and they moved to Wortley, where most of their children were born, then Chapeltown. I'm not researching the brooks on this site as they were from London and previously Devon, but anyone in Yorkshire connected to the Pearsons or johnsons. William Pearsons parents were selina and James.

I worked in Holbeck in about 1963/64 and used to catch my bus home at the bottom of Domestic Street or, sometimes, I would walk up because there were so many shops. At that time the streets were clean and the houses well kept. Housewives still swept outside their houses and washed the flags, and donkey stoned the steps. There was pride. Now? I don't think I would care to walk up Domestic Street at all. It is senseless to destroy perfectly good properties when a fraction of the cost of demolition and replacement would cover necessary upgrades.

Very little documented of Leeds history available on here strange considering the importance of the city in the industrial revolution it has undergone many changes and more should be portrayed even more so than these small Irish suburbs

Can anyone out there remember a bread shop on Middleton Road, Morley called “Spivey’s”? In the late 1950’s I used to be sent to Spivey’s on a Saturday morning to collect two small Hovis loaves that had been ordered by my Aunt who lived in Jubilee Terrace.
Also can anyone remember the stationer’s Butterworth & Pilkington in Fountain Street? I remember being in that shop in the 1950’s and it seemed to me like Aladdin’s cave. -

I believe Leeds should have more dates incorporated and not pushed aside to make way for even more Irish or Indian papers which are not even part of Britain last time I checked

Where exactly was the Farm Stores along Lingwell Gate Lane, Outwood. My husband and I disagree, I think it was before the railway bridge opposite the Station, but he thinks it was a mile or two further along
