If the error continues please contact our support team." Why is that?1 voteOpen - Under review ·AdminThe British Newspaper Archive (Head of Data Development, The British Newspaper Archive) responded
Is this still a problem, or was it a temporary error?

Can you give us a little more detail here? Which box, which corner of which page?

Individual paper updates
I would like the ability to 'subscribe' to select papers. What this means is that I will be notified by email or message if my selected papers are updated with new issues, and notified which editions have been added.

This is a great idea!

Too narrow digitised text box when editing.
I'm presently editing text and find the digitised text box on the left a little too narrow. Yo have to scroll across to see the full line. Otherwise excellent.

'My Research' list too long to access
I have all my family names as separate folders, but now the list is too long to access - any ideas on how I can get to the end of the list to revisit items I have saved?

Could you give us a little more detail here Nigel? What were the specific problems you were having?

Background Information
I would love it if there was some general information about each of the papers available. So while doing research I can see where that paper was published, when, the types of articles it published, and frequent contributors. It's important to know the paper's biases for historical research, and it would be nice not to have to look that all up elsewhere.

There is some information available for most titles – you can find this by going to the title page (Browse by title) and then clicking on the small “information button” next to the name of the title. That said, we do plan to improve this is future so it is both more complete and easier to find!

A button to get a random article
I would love a random button that would take me to a random article in the archives.

What is happening to the WW1 Newspaper count?
Hi, As an avid researcher I keep a close count of WW1 newspaper availability. These numbers inexplicably seem to be going down on a daily basis - what is going on as I can find no explanation. Thankyou

Future Publication Schedule
How about posting a schedule of proposed releases of newspapers. I check the site most days for the areas of the country I am most interested in but a prior announcement of forthcoming newspapers would be useful.

We have redeveloped the digitsation workflow software so that it can provide more granular detail on titles. Now we are investigating ways to send the data from the workflow to the website and make it presentable.

completed runs & dates / better visibility of what is online
Let us know in an easily found format the entire run of a paper or journal held in the National Archive and when it has all been copied and put on line.

We have developed a prototype data feed from the digitisation workflow software which will provide much more granular data in future. Now we are looking at ways too feed this data through to the website and make it presentable

Make sure uploaded papers don't disappear
I notice that previous feedback refers to the falling number of newspapers available during the WWI period. I have had a similar problem today, in that one previously accessed newspaper (London Daily News, 22.08.1891) appears to have completely vanished from your site. I accessed it on the 24th February this year, but because the quality of the downloaded PDF was not great (another minor gripe), I wanted to check the original, to no avail.
Can you clarify whether or not vanishing newspapers are a common problem? Is it just your database being temperamental, or are certain uploads only temporary? Thanks…

We are now working on a process to add back in the newspapers we had to remove temporarily for copyright reasons – expect some good news soon!

A very sensible suggestion! Currently this information is somewhat buried – we will see what we can do to improve this.

Incresase limits on page views.
"Unlimited" access to the site turns out to be just 3000 page views per month. Really not a lot when researching. At an average of 100 page views per day this could mean being able to view just half a dozen - or less - newspapers per day. Hardly unlimited, is it?

Thankyou – we will look at providing this information on an improved “Newspaper title” landing page. The data is available in our digitisation and search system but is currently not fed through to the site in a simple way.

Please include a sample page of every newspaper.
The quality was not the best when I tried the site.

Add the Newham Recorder and more East London papers
We need more content for this area barely covered at all after 1900
