Searching for guidance on finding 19th-century local newspaper mentions of a family business
Hello everyone,
I’m fairly new to using the British Newspaper Archive and I’m trying to track down mentions of a small family-run bakery that likely operated in Yorkshire around the late 1800s to early 1900s. I’ve tried searching with different combinations of surnames and town names, but I’m either getting too many unrelated results or nothing that clearly matches what I’m looking for.
My main question is: what is the most effective way to narrow down searches for small local businesses when the name is quite common? Would it be better to focus on specific newspapers from the region first, or are there advanced search filters (like date ranges or keywords in context) that work better for this kind of research?
Any advice or example search strategies would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance! geometry vibes
