Highlight the text searched for in the original newspaper - i.e. don't make us have to attempt to read an entire page in order to find it.
Highlight the text searched for in the original newspaper - i.e. don't make us have to attempt to read an entire page of tiny text in order to find the term we searched for. This is what Newspapers.com does. Look at that website for tips on how to improve this one, searchwise. Look also at Trove for search tips to improve this. So far, this website is poor value.

Make it easier to see and read
How the heck are you suppose to read this. The print is way to small. And if you try to enlarge it. Well forget it. I was extremely excited to be able to get articles on my family even if I pay $15.00 each month. This will be my last if I can't even read it.

ability to correct or cancel a search name/word
As I discover the correct spelling of my subject's name, I correct it by one letter and press Search. But when the entire list returns, the old name is still there, cluttering up the list. If I delete the name entirely, it still reappears. Please allow us to cancel or adjust permanently.

Obituaries
Despite entering someone's name, the requested info does not appear even though it should. Could there not be a possibility of showing deaths/marriages as a collection?

I am trying to create a shipbuilding timeline and find it so frustrating that search results are not listed in date order. It's so obvious
Please list search hits in date order, not just random results, many of which are duplicates.

Setting search options as personal defaults.
Ideally, we should be able to set options for searching withouth having to reset every time we open up. As an historian I find it is frustrating that the default option is 'relevance' when 'date earliest' would be better. Recently, the website has taken to reverting to relevance at the drop of a hat which is frustrating in the extreme.

Make bookmarked articles sortable
It would be really useful to be able to sort bookmarked articles in the same way you can search results. Like a lot of researchers, I bookmark a lot of articles for future reference and find it frustrating that they are saved in the order you bookmarked them with no way of re-sorting them. The search function for bookmarked articles is very useful, but it would be great to be able to sort alphabetically and by article date as well.

Better searches
How is it I can find an article with an exact phrase e.g. John Smith of Kendal yet when I type this exact phrase in the exact order in the search box the article with this exact phrase isn't the first article or infact any of the articles on the search results? Useless, I know theres a alot of articles of interst but the search engine isnt good enough to let me find them, this is frustrating!!

Enable download of an item or part of a page in a way that preserves the full reference to the paper edition, eg as with Kansas newspapers.
http://kansashistoricalopencontent.newspapers.com enables users to easily select part of a page and save it to a PDF file which contains the reference source for the edition. This facilitates organisation and retrieval of downloaded files.

Provide more geographic search options, eg by county & by more towns
Search by place include options for small towns like Tadcaster but not a large town like Croydon, it allows search by London but not for counties.

You need to make it easier to search for things
I wanted drama reviews of the Liverpool Echo for Feb 1955. There was no way at all to specify this. Thousands of results, all of which has one of the numbers of the date in them. Utterly pointless.
