This is the most comprehensive periodical for NE England in the later 19th century
The Newcastle Chronicle fits our inclusion criteria! We have researched the BL catalogue and it is available to us for digitisation. We have added the following years to our Digitisation Plan: 1764-1871
Please be aware that until we have received the material into our studio and checked it, it is not possible to guarantee that it will be digitised.

Would like to see 1930-31 added. My grandfather was the centre-forward at Newcastle United!
This would be a fantastic resource for those researching the North-East region.

Definitely agree with this one. Joseph Cowen's Newcastle Daily Chronicle is the essential resource for the North-East for the period from 1858 onwards. At one period it even became the highest circulation provincial daily in the country, so should certainly be on the BNA. Unlike the Journal (the paper of the establishment - and extremely dull reading), the Chronicle championed the working man, supporting striking miners, and arguing for home rule in Ireland.
