The Hull Daily Mail
The Hull Daily Mail is available online until 1950 however stops at that point. Hull Museum has paper copies but a card index so you getting the remaining years online would be crucial for research!

My grandparents and mother were from Sutton. I visited regularly as a child in the 50's and early 60's. This is an interesting site. I am still trying to find information about my grandfather and his family.

Such nostalgia reading about Sutton, the place I grew up in, first at 14 Potterill Lane then Sutton Manor Wawne Road, my father bought it as the old vicarage and changed its name to Sutton Manor, I used to ride all around there when it was all fields, had my pony shod at Calverts top of Potterill lane, used to catch the train from Botanic gardens to Sutton, 6d as I remember, went to first Cavendish Road Junior School, then Hull Grammar, earlier this year met up with fellow horse people from my teen years who used to come to my parties at Sutton Manor, not seen them for 45 years, used to buy scraps at the fish and chip shop on Church street, hoping to come back to Hull end of this year, early 2020 maybe if you are open I can pop in, still chat to Maggie Bilton on facebook who also rode and lived on Leads road
best years of my life, was a first cub at Sutton Methodist, how I wish I could turn the clock back sometimes, thanks for the memories, a great web site, sadly don't have any...

What a delight!
I've just discovered your website after my daughter bought me the DVD on Sutton & Wawne. We moved from Southcoates Lane to Chamberlain Street in 1962/3- we now live near Wakefield.
I'm already committed and planning a visit hopefully with my two older sisters to your museum soon. I now live near Wakefield and my sisters in Hertfordshire and Nottinghamshire so it will take some planning.
Looking forward to learning more about Sutton and visiting your wonderful work

My cousin Hilary Fanthorpe's father ran the chemists in Sutton village circa 1940s/50s. Another cousin, Bob Whitaker, a master cabinet maker, lived there about the same time. I was brought up in London and I remember visiting Sutton in the 50s, it was very rural. At that time all my parent's relations lived in east Hull and many of their earlier family members had lived in the Groves area. My Mum's Dad worked as a coal heaver at St.George's dock in the 1930s and my Dad's father had a wallpaper shop on the Holderness Road in the early 1900s.

I’m trying to track down any information about this couple and possible siblings. George Henry Cottam Bn 1957 married an Annie Stephen at the Registery Office Hull on 20th December 1978. Cottam gave his occupation as 'Licensed Victualler' of 12 Grindell St, Hull and Stephen gave her address as The Lansdowne Hotel, Anlaby Rd. I know of the Hotel. They divorced in late 1980s. They both originated from the Ecclesall Bierlow area of Sheffield and as no Family members of the Cottam family were present it is suggested they might have disgraced the family name in someway, possibly a pregnancy. George Henry Cottam (JNR) was also left out of his fathers will which would indicate something Thanks

ooking for info regarding Thomas Scane/Skane/Scaine family who were supposed to be involved in the whaling industry in Hull in the late 1700's early 1800's before coming to Ontario Canada, on one of their own ships abt 1820. They were apparently a well to-do highly respected family of the area. Thomas b about 1765, married abt 1793 possibly to Jane (maybe a Waddingham and maybe in South Cave). Children, Jane b about 1795, Besty, Ellen (died in England), John b 1950 possibly in North or South Cave and Thomas b abt 1967 possibly in Hull. John, Bessy and Thomas may have been baptized in North Cave. Looking to confirm whaling connections and parents/siblings of Thomas. Any help info would be appreciated.

My grandma lived in Hull I believe at Adolphus Street?. I wonder if you may have some information that we can follow up. This was probably in the late 1960s

as wondering if there is any record of Jennie Alberta Farrow as headmistress of Harbour Grammar school or as deputy at Hull school in about 1964 thereabouts. I am doing family history and wanted the dates she was there.
