Birkenhead Advertiser
The Birkenhead Advertiser commenced in 1860 and contains a wealth of information about this town. John Laird began his shipbuilding here employing many thousands of men in his Shipyard.
Also Central Park in New York was built on the original design of Birkenhead Park which is still the same today.
The Birkenhead Advertiser commenced in 1860 and then later became known as the Birkenhead News I think in 1880.
Would be good to see this newspaper digitised if possible.

This is an important source of reference for historians and those interested in the early industrial development of this area of Merseyside and West Cheshire. Please - we need to be able to gain access to this resource

Totally agree. Over the years Birkenhead has been associated with Liverpool, Merseyside and Wirral but we need something focussing on Birkenhead.

The Birkenhead News and Birkenhead Advertiser together have 186 votes but there is no sign of either title being digitised when others with fewer votes are being included. Wirral is not Liverpool and Liverpool newspapers were no substitute for local reporting and in many cases reported the same national and international events.
I accept that not every title can be digitised but many of the earlier issues of these Birkenhead titles are too fragile to be seen at the British Library and are in danger of being lost altogether unless they are digitised. What is your criteria for inclusion in the digitisation programme?

The Wirral News Group titles hold invaluable information for both Family & Local Historians

I ordered the 1899 copy at the British Library but on receipt it was found to fragile to be read. Like wise the 1898 volume.
Local newspapers in such poor condition should be the highest priority for digitisation and preservation before they are lost to us forever.
