I am trying to find the history of my family and I now believe that my father was born in Trimdon in 1937, his name was Alfred Kitching. I also believe that my mother, Margaret Annie Calvert, was born there too. Is there anybody out there who can confirm this for me. Thanks

Hello to anyone who can remember me. I lived at 8 Coronation Terrace , Deaf Hill and when I left school I worked for Billy Walton the builder. I went to Deaf Hill Primary School and the Foundry School before we were all moved to the Village School. My mother was known by most people in Deaf Hill as Eileen Carter, my Brother was Frank Carter who went to A.J.Dawson’s Grammar School at Wingate and he is now retired and lives in Harrogate. Sadly my Mother died on June 2nd 2009. I would like to know if there is anyone who can put me in touch with Marjory HARE who lived next door to us at 9, Coronation Terrace

I would like to contact local writers in the Trimdon area for a new magazine I am publishing (not on line – but printed). I am looking for historical articles about the Trimdons, whether about the old pits, the churches, pubs in the area – really anything that would be of interest to readers in the wider South Durham area

Hi. to every one who knew me when I lived in the community spanning the Council houses’, Deaf Hill and The Colliery from the beginning of the 2nd world war to December 1962 before moving to Belper in Derbyshire to further my career in the mining industry in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire coalfields.
I visit the Trimdon Website most days and was very proud to see the Trimdon Brass band parading on Wednesday prior to the miners gala and then at the 125 anniversary in Durham on the Saturday led by an old friend of mine, Jake Elliott ex Drum Major 2nd battalion Scotts Guards.
It would be nice to have a reunion at the community centre or the Colliery Club for men who worked at Deaf Hill Colliery from the end of the 2nd world war until the closure in 1967 ish. My dad was well known for his commitment and involvement on the parish council in the community and as a N.U.M. official at the pit for many years.
Congratulations to every one who was involved in the community for organising the special event -

What a fantastic site, it was great to see some of the old pics of Trimdon Village, brought back some lovely memories. One of the paper cuttings (1963) commenting on the old run down farm opposite the church where I remember I got a cuff around the lugs from PC Connelly ‘s long leather gloves for playing in there. Looking back now I know it was dangerous – I was only about 5 or 6 years old then

Hi, I really enjoy keeping in touch on this site and of course the Northern Echo and Gazette on line.
Left Trimdon Village in 1956 and have now lived in Denmark for over 50 years. I went to Trimdon Village Parochial School (alas no more) and lived in Front Street.
My name is James Sloan and I know there are still a few of my school friend who remember me. I was hoping that there perhaps some were on Facebook so I’m trying to get in touch this way.
Keep up the good work. Best wishes -

Hello just wanted to say thanks to everyone who spoke to me and Kath in Trimdon at the weekend, we really had a GREAT time. A very special thanks to my lovely family for letting us stay and watering and feeding us for the whole weekend. Great to see Ray Carter, The Doc and TV star, Steve Batey looking so well!! We could walk round Leeds for days without anyone speaking or knowing us yet we can go anywhere at Trimdon, The Club, Futty Match, Paper Shop, Betting Shop and loads of people say hello, something very special about the place and we hope everyone realizes what a great community spirit they live within. Kath not a Trimdon girl but still loves it up there as much as me (she says Hi to her dance partner on Saturday, Ang). Thanks again and hope to see you all soon

What a wonderful website. I am 85 years of age and was an evacuee at Stillington Hall for 3 and half years. I was most pleased to see the article from Anthony and Ambrose Richard re their stay at Stillington Hall and totally agree with their story. The Alexian Brothers were excellent members of that Catholic order and my stay at Stillington Hall certainly made a man out of me. Our guardian Jack Burke certainly did a good job looking after us. One of my late brothers was also evacuated with me. We were firstly evacuated to a family at Sutton on Forest but after three months we were transferred to Stillington Hall. I have been back a couple of years ago and was completely surprised that the hall had been demolished. Today I don't think it would have been allowed. The farm buildings that we were billeted in are now houses apart from a part of the yard which was used by the Manson family. I remember the Manson lads when I was there. Also I went to see the old mill and was pleasantly surprised to see how wonderfully it had been transformed into a lovely home. I had many a happy time playing on the dam. I have a photo of all the evacuees which was taken on the green near the village hall.I was also surprised to see the village blacksmith's shop which was opposite the village hall and is now a beautiful house. I don't think there will be many of those evacuee lads still alive today. I have tried to get a photo of the Hall over the years but have not been successful so if any one knows were I can get copies of the photo's that are in your archive then I would be delighted.
Thank you Stillington for some lovely memories.
