In case you haven’t heard, Aris and Maria of Cruson are retiring and the shop has been sold. They took over the shop in 1971—or at least, Aris think so, but nobody’s really sure. And they’ve been a pretty much permanent fixture on Church Street ever since.
When they came to Camberwell the area had a lot of Cypriot immigrants who’d moved over here in the 1960s—so many that the area was informally known as ‘Little Cyprus’. Even today there’s Sophocles bakery, Vineyard Greek Taverna, St Mary’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral; when I first moved here back in the mid-90s there was also another Greek Taverna on the corner of Camberwell Grove, and Tadim cafe on Church Street, and Paul’s Continental Olive Shop. And there was Cruson.
Everybody knows Cruson. The shop with its green awning, and its racks of fruit, vegetables, flowers, and plants on the street, and its interior a time-capsule of a high street long since gone. It’s a local landmark, appearing in much art and photography.

In the 1961 Census for Rotherhithe Surrey England (8, Elephant Lane, Rotherhithe St Olave Southwark, Surrey RG11 piece 576 folio 24 page 42 ', 'N', 'A',0,0,0,'5760130')it states that Alfred James Cook - son - was aged 12 years. This was my grandfather and I know he was born 1880 so it should have been 12 months or 1 year. Has anybody got a copy of the actual entry where age could be checked please? Also looking for details of the child William Cook named in the same household aged 5 years. I had no idea there may have been another child in this family at this time. There was another child born abt 1967, Richard Charles Cook. Any info would be apreciated. Thanks

Born 1887 son of Henry Stambridge Hickman/Hickmer and Maria Martha Prynn/Hickman and died 24 July 1968 Rotherhithe Surrey. Am wondering whether there is a list of burials in London area cemeteries that I could search for more information about this person. This person had an illegitimate daughter then married Hannah Gladman nee Frost in 1978 who was not the mother of the child. Later married ?

I have hit a brick wall with Rosa b1920 in Rotherhithe. She married Frederick Charles LAMING in 1931 at Southwark. The only other relative I can find is her brother Sidney SKUDDER b1882 also in Rotherhithe. He was head of the house 104 Neptune Street although aged only 19 and Rosa, her husband and new baby lived with him. I cannot find the Skudder family before 1967. I have found the Thudder family in Lambeth in 1971 census but SCUDDER and SCUDDEE have been suggested. Does anyone have any links or more information so I can try to break down this brick wall?
