The Birkenhead News archives are held at Wirral Archives Service at
    Lower Ground Floor
    Cheshire Lines Building
    Canning Street
    Birkenhead
    Wirral
    CH41 1ND

They hold a large number of newspapers going back to 1877 in some cases. I I accessed some a few years ago for my family research project. Not an easy thing to do when you live on the other side of the world! My opinion is that the Birkenhead News and other newspapers of the Wirral hold significant historical importance as Birkenhead in the 19th century was an emerging industrial town and a place of great innovation and advancement and held "firsts" for many public institutions - eg first public park in the world, first street tramway in Britain. I would like to say that the staff at the Wirral Archives were fantastically helpful and go out of their way to assist customers of the service.
