Newspapers we should add next

Tell us what publications would be of most use to you. You can be as general (Victorian cycling magazines) or specific (South Wales Argus) as you wish! We take on board all of your suggestions but are bound by copyright restrictions and our agreements with publishers, these form the boundaries of what we may publish online.

  1. Dundee Perth & Cupar Advertiser

Filling the gap 1836-1838 would be useful though the Dundee Courier for these dates or better 1836-1843 would also ideally fill a gap not covered elsewhere.

  2. Any local newspapers covering the Norfolk Area after 1900.

I was saddened to see that since 2017 the Thetford & Watton Times and People's Weekly Journal editions after 1900 have been removed. I would love to see any local Norfolk newspaper added to these pages that covers the Mid-Norfolk area from 1900 onwards as they are now out of copyright up 1920 as it's over a 100 years since they were published for the general public to buy.

It ran 1921-1924: ''The only Journal solely devoted to the interests of the British film producing industry', it claims - accurately.

  6. The Weekly News

A British national newspaper founded in 1855 and published every Wednesday up until 2020. I’m looking for something which was submitted to the paper by my mother (Kathryn Hellewell) between 1978 - 1981. Some sort of comedy article based on a real life event involving the delivery of a carpet to a block of flats (similar to a Laurel and Hardy sketch) possibly entitled another fine mess. I’d like to find it for my Grandma to help jog her memory.... However I think adding all editions (if possible) would be a great addition to the BNA

  7. Temperance Newspapers

Why are there no temperance papers at all on here? This movement involved an estimated 10% of the population in 1900, and was one of the most influential cultural, social, and political forces for nearly 100 years - please catch up!!!! Such as the Temperance Companion, Alliance News, etc.

  8. More local Scottish papers from the interwar period

Many Scottish papers stop around 1914. Carrying on to 1939 would cover not only Great War developments and casualties, but also the General Strike and the lead up to the Second World War in an era which was to change completely after 1945.

  9. The Daily Gleaner (Jamaica)

I have been a regular researcher on this site since it was first launched. It would be lovely to see some more Jamaican Newspapers added, I’m sure they would be beneficial to many people who had Colonial ancestors who lived there. I see you are adding Colonial India Newspapers, but so far only have one Jamaican Newspaper. The Daily Gleaner would be an excellent addition to your brilliant archives.

  13. Enniscorthy Echo

    Hi there

This newspaper and also the Wexford Echo is now defunct having been in circulation since 1902 until 2013. It was in circulation in Wexford, Ireland and is on microfilm at Wexford town Library, Co. Wexford. I would hope that since it is now defunct that it should be easy to obtain copies. It would be great as I know you already have the New Ross Standard, Wexford but that really only covers the New Ross area of Wexford. Hopefully you can look favorably on this suggestion.

  14. The Highlander (1873-1882)

The Highlander, published in Inverness between 1873 and 1881, is said to have focused on land reform and the Gaelic language, but it is also likely to have featured socialist ideas as the editor was "one of the founders of the Scottish Labour Party". As such it is likely to be of interest not just to Gaelic Scholars and Celticists but also to historians interested in socialism and the experience of the working class, be they from Scotland or other parts of the UK, or scholars more generally researching politics during the 1870s and early 1880s. The Highlander was also…

  16. Northern Review 1887-1892

Northern Review was a Victorian journal covering all aspects of life in a weekly supplement. It's an incredibly interesting insight into life in the North East at the time, accompanied by many interesting sketches that are lacking from the main newspapers at the time such as the Gazette, the Northern Echo, the Northern Weekly Gazette and the Stockton Herald.

Crucially for the practical side of things, as there is no copyright on this publication as it has been defunct for so long, I don't believe there would be many obstacles in making it available online. The British Library hold copies…
