Just discovered your site and much enjoyed the old photos. I was born in Burnage in 1931 but we moved to Didsbury soon after where we lived first in Claremont Grove then moved to Victoria Ave whre we lived until 1941. Even though I am now 82 I still have fond memories of Didsbury. I went to Beaver Rd school then up to Didsbury High school (Dogs College). One of my favourite places to visit was the smithy at the end of Osborne St, such heat and noise and when I wanted some time on my own on my mongrel bike to Marie Louise Gardens for a bit of peace and quiet

I was born in Northen grove in 1950 and went to cavendish road school. I remember the Hardern family very well as Len was a great friend of my fathers and took my mum and dad to hospital when my sister was born,it was middle of winter with thick snow on the ground and they had trouble getting the car started. There is a thriving Facebook page called west didsbury friends of our golden years if anyone would like to see or join where people tell of their memories

My grandfather John Scott Singleton was born at 1 Sackville Street Manchester in August 1957. Although his father Robert Peter Singleton was from Manchester he and his wife Harriet lived in London and were, I think, living in London and just visiting Manchester. This is my query. The person who registered my great grandfathers birth was not one of his parents but "SAMUEL CONSTERDINE, occupier, 1 Sackville Street". I had been trying to find a connection between my great grandfather and the railway and have found a SAMUEL CONSTERDINE, an engine driver,. in the 1961 census living at Dunbar Street Manchester, and if this is near Sackville Street wonder if this could be the same person, and what the connection is.

Im interested in any family links with the Slater family who lived at one time in Pendleton, Manchester. John William Slater was a tape sizer in the cotton mills, born around 1872 and died aged 67 in 1939. He married Mary Ellen? and had 2 daughters, Phyllis and Constance, born 1901. There was a Ralph Slater, a cotton operator, who died aged 33 in 1896. He was probably John's brother, but not sure. In 1925 Constance married Douglas Brodie Lowndes, born 1893. He was the son of Alfred Barry Lowndes and Mary Brodie who died in 1960. They lived in Eccles.

In the 1940s/50s my father James Lawrence Roberts used to cycle to Cheetham Hill,Manchester from Oakengates, Shropshire to see his cousins. He never named them. In the family bible the names found are: Roberts/Ball/Barra(e)tt, and Eliza Morgan. This is all the information I have. Can anyone help please as I know nothing about them. I have, however, traced the Roberts line back to Robert Roberts b. 1931 at Madeley, shropshire and his mother's line back to Isaiah Ball born at Wrockwardinewood, Shropshire c.1940. Pam

I understand this is a long shot, but any information would be greatly and dearly appreciated.

I have obtained a copy of the 1967 census showing my mother-in-law and her family living in Manchester. There was also a Joseph Alfonsus Carlos - said to be a nephew of Mary Hackett who was head of the household and a John Mathus who is said to be her brother. This could be Matthews of course if the handwriting has been interpreted incorrectly. Does anyone know of the family - who were the parents of Joseph A Carlos and was John's surname Mathus or Cummins
