Both mine and my husbands families were born and brought up in Colne. It would be great if we were able to access old reports in which our families were included.

Hello. Please can you help me find out some information about my family?
I live in a small village near Preston but my paternal Grandfather’s Mother was Sarah Webster from Colne. She was from a large family (by today’s standards) & had quite a few brothers that fought, some died, with the Lancashire Fusiliers. I remember my late Grandfather telling me that a headline during WW1 read ‘COLNE WOMAN LOSES THIRD SON OF THE WAR’. If this is so, please can somebody help me find out about this & what happened to my Great Grandmother’s brothers? I know one of the brothers was named ‘JAMES WEBSTER’
Thank you in advance.
Kindest regards
Martin Hunter

The Colne Times please. There is so much history in this town. Colne has a thousand years of to look back on. It was in the centre of the Lancashire cotton trade. It is also a hotbed of family historians all waiting anxiously. There could be no better newspaper to archive online.

The Colne Times was originally printed in the 1860s and contains a wealth of information about local residents from Colne, Trawden, Foulridge and the surrounding area, so is genealogically rich. The Colne Times was at a later date incorporated with the Nelson Leader. Please bring us this newspaper before it's too late!

Still waiting for this newspaper. Please can you tell us when it is likely to happen. For some of us, time is running out.

The local libraries have thrown away their hard copies of the complete print run of the Colne Times / Colne & Nelson Times / Nelson Leader. Therefore the British Library editions are probably the only ones that remain, apart from a very variable standard microfilm.

Nelson was the country's fastest growing town of the 19c, the Nelson Leader has a huge wealth of information detailing the social upheaval of that period
