Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

Hello Everybody. I'm hoping to locate anybody in the area who recorded a LED ZEPPELIN concert in the Stoke/Birmingham area in the late 60's/early 70's (eg Trentham Gardens 15th Jan 1973). The quality of the tape doesn't matter! Also looking for tapes/photos/tickets/posters of this and any other Zep gig. I am writing a book

I am looking for a Marvin Mayor. His last name is pronounced "Mare", but not sure how it is spelled. He lived in Biddulph, had a wife, Lorraine who is divorced and re-married and a son Nigel. He was last seen 5 years ago working in a pub in Congleton, hooked up with the landlady. If anyone has any information please contact me. Thank You.

Instarted in April 1979 and worked as a Front-Of House volunteer until December 1993 when I was taken onto the payroll in a full-time capacity as Stage Door Keeper. I remained in that post until the closure of the theatre itself in 2000 through three different managements (with occasional periods of unemployment between each one!). I was actually on duty on the very last show ever staged at the Theatre Royal, thus therefore the last in a long line of Stage Door Keepers. I’m proud to have been there on that final night. Would love to see the archives from back then of all the gigs thanks

I used to be a member of The Place nightclub in Hanley, Stoke on Trent. (This was in the mid to late 60's). I have in my possession a book entitled "The Place" by Kevin Donovan. (Part One). This book was the Biography of "The Place" Britain's first major Discotheque and covered the years 1962 to 1969 when I stopped going to the club. I would like to know if a second book was published covering later years etc. If anyone can help with any information please contact me on Denaridave@aol.com or just reply to this question on this website. Ideally I would like to obtain any subsequent book or actually contact Kevin Donovan or any of the previous owners of "The Place" nightclub. Many thanks

Does anyone have any information about a Mr Derek Lee. He went to Australia in 1953 with his parents, and lived at Wollongong. In the early 1960s he became Wollongong's most popular singer, and won a national TV talent contest. His prize was a trip to the UK. He made the journey back to Britain in 1965 and was signed by the Noel Gay Organisation. After returning to Australia he continued his showbiz career with concerts and TV appearances. In January 1967 he sailed again to England with his manager, Mr. Ossie Byrne. It is thought that he still had relatives in Stoke-on-Trent at that time.

Your site is excellent and has brought back many memories.
I have spent a good deal of time during my childhood at Mow Cop. I had
an uncle and aunt and cousins who had moved there from yorkshire during
the 50's. My uncle's old cottage is the one which appears to sit in the
tower of the castle on your old aerial photo, the view of which is over
Cheshire. Having lost touch with my cousins, I was surprised to find
that one of them still lives on the same site in a new bungalow. I must
visit one day soon.
Many thanks for your site -

What a great website! I came across it by accident. Great memories. I too went to Hartshill Bank school probably around the same time as you. I recognise some of the faces in the picture. I remember Mrs Parker very well, the Rowntrees penny tray (yum) and also the Crown Pub corridor! Thanks again. Great job

I love the site and it is lovely to see so many names I
recognise. However, as an original born and bred Mow Cop lad I have
to say I am feeling a little precious about how the boundaries of the
lovely hill (which by the way Mr Vernon Ball, Headmaster at Woodcock
Well School, took great pains in teaching us actually just falls in
the height to be called a mountain)are being stretched. Mount
Pleasant, Scholar Green, Dales Green, The Rookery, Harriseahead etc.
are not Mow Cop. Sorry folks - you are not originals but imposters.
You are rather special however if you are a Mow Cop original and so I
can understand you trying I suppose!
Some facts are getting slightly skewed also. For example Jack Blood
was not an undertaker (although he helped Freddie Thornton sometimes).
the only undertakers on Mow cop were the Hancock's - Charles and then
his eldest son Joe. Freddie Thornton was Dales Green,Wilsons down The
Bank and Scholar Green and Tom Bailey at Harriseahead
