Ive just moved into a house in bolling hall road Facing the park and very close to the museum. I'm wondering when my house might have been built. It's quite high up off the street and it's definitely one of the older houses on the street. I've been trying to find out about the history of the area including when the homes around bolling hall were built but can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have the answer or ideas of where I could look?

Your website is very interesting, I was born in Thornton in 1937, my grandfather was Wm Robinson who owned the general store in Market St along with other properties/ I believe one of these was the coffin house. My uncle was Walter Holmes the butcher. I lived in Ball St for a while and remember the public washhouse there. An old friend of mine is Ken Russell who lives in Hill Top and is a keen photographer. I now live in Nova Scotia, Canada and am pleased to read your website, it brings back happy memories

Anyone tell me what was the name of the pub at the bottom of thornton road which has now been demolished when we got off the bus in the town from thornton it was directly opposite cant for the life in me remember the name

Enjoyed your website, very much. My brother, Peter, and older sister and I were all born in Thornton at 1,Market Street. I believe it was a Grocer's shop which my father, Lloyd Wilkinson, ran. My grandmother, Mary Ellen Wilkinson, lived in the top house on GreenMount. Some of our relatives whom I remember were the Parkinson's and Jowetts. My family eventually moved away and I spent the next 29 years living on St. Matthew's Road in Bankfoot. My brother still lives in Bankfoot. I worked for the Mg. Dir. of Jeremiah Ambler Ltd. on Valley Road in Bfd. (later it became British Mohair Spinners) for13 years then came to America where I remained for 50 years (Chicago, Illinois, and now retired to Arkansas). I remember my father telling us that when he was a young lad some visitors from America came to Thornton and Haworth to visit the Bronte parsonage. They asked my dad if he would read the plaque on the outside of the Bronte House in Thornton because they wanted to hear his Yorkshire accent, which he did, and they gave him a half-crown! Must have seemed like a fortune to him!

Came across this by accident. am researching my Sugden relatives [David and Mary, son John], who immigrated to the US in 1943. Mary [who is the Sugden] is supposed to have sold the house when she immigrated. ... now there are Sharps from Yorkshire also, but they have never been connected to Horton Green. ummm

Hi I lived in thornton village in the 60'in a bakers shop I think there were 3 in the village and 3 or 4 butchers shops as the local mills were still working.

m looking for a John CLOUGH born abt 1777/80 Bradford. On the death of his father James CLOUGH in 1796 he was a butcher. He had a daughter Harriet born 1806 and died 1964, at the time he was also a butcher. At the time of his Brother Isaac CLOUGH death in 1969 he was a tailor. 1987 Directory John Clough is a butcher at 34 Shambles, Bradford. I'm looking for a marriage, and his wife,s name any other children and where he died. Any help appreciated

Trying to find family of william hodgson . william hodgson married jane and they had a child george frederick hodgson. william hodgson came to australia with his son george frederick hodgson on a passenger ship i guess around 1928. george frederick hodgson born 1945 Guessing william hodgson born around 1960 .
