Although I viewed files at local libraries this is a slow and challenging task where you always fear you may have missed something. Sidmouth Observer
Sidmouth was a very important seaside resort from the 1700s. Queen Victoria's father died there while on a visit and many important families had a house there.
It was also a strong dissenting community. There were frequent visits from leaders in London.
Foreign dignitaries and aristocrats visited too.
The papers are a fascinating mix of small town life juxtaposed with the concerns of the 'great and good'.2 votes -
