My Ggrandfather, William Parish, was a blast furnaceman, designated a superman as he was immensly strong and supposedly earned £1 a day in 1937. He worked for Farnley Ironworks and like you I am trying to find out more about this Ironworks as some more of my relatives worked there.
I found one of my relatives on a census and it looked as though he lived perhaps in cottages as pages and pages of the census were designated ‘Farnley Iron Works’.

Does anyone know of a site where I can find the royal visits that have taken place in Sheffield ??

It would be good to build up a list of information regarding these for the site..

I was born in Morley Hall and grew up in Gildersome. This morning I drove my 89 year old father around Gildersome and Morley. His father and grandfather set up W. Whitehead and Sons worsted mill in Gildersome in 1926, the last of the seven or so Gildersome mills to open and the only worsted mill. He was also involved in closing the last mill, Booths, in the 1980s. Do you have any plans to extend your mill project to cover Gildersome?
