I recently contacted the office of the Oldham Chronicle to try and access their archive and got this reply:
Unfortunately the archives we had for that era are no longer part of our collection.
In 2017 the newspaper moved to an online service only and we moved from the large premises we occupied in Oldham to smaller offices.
The records and archives have been donated to the Oldham borough and are currently being held by the council. For safety and preservation reasons they are currently in storage and not accessible to either ourselves or the public as they provide a catalogued history of our town over 163 years, it was a priority they were preserved for future generations.
