Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

My many times Grandfather James Heath was born about 1890 The Parish record of his death states "shotte to death at Stone" and he was buried on 20 Nov 1964 at St Giles Church Newcastle under Lyme. I have been trying to find out the circumstances surrounding this entry. Can anyone help? Also he married an Alice or Ann ( possibly Alice Stimson) but I have seen and now can't find again an entry of a record that stated she was "born over the water". I have taken this to mean in Ireland but again any help would be appreciated in unravelling.

My Aunt, Maureen Taylor, originally from Ireland, married ? Etherington in the 1950's, they had eight children and lived in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire until the mid 1960's. After my aunt died i believe they moved back to their fathers home city of Liverpool. The last known contact with my side of the family (my mother Margaret and Maureen were sisters) was at a party for my parents silver wedding anniversary hosted by another sister, Betty Scandrett, in Daventry, Northants in 1981. I would be interested to hear from anyone who maybe able to help in tracing this side of my family.

The Newman Family
My father's first wife was Florence Newman of the Bridge Inn Kidsgrove. They had 2 children, before she died in 1926. My father re married and I was born in 1953. I grew up at the Bridge Inn and knew Gertrude Newman very well. I also met Auntie Beatrice and Auntie Frances on a couple of occasions when they came home from Canada. I knoiw of Tom and his memorial which was in the churchyard and I think I know a little of the other brother. -

I have heard that there is a printed book with the history of the LEIGH family of Biddulph but I haven't been able to find it. Has anyone any details of such a book and where it might be found? My own LEIGH family may have originated in Biddulph and I'm hoping that such a book would help me in my search.

Very interesting website. My grandfather, Harry Boughey,
was born in Caverswall, one of 12 children His father worked
at a pottery, They moved to Derby in the late 19thc. where
worked at Royal Crown Derby. My grandfather imigrated to the
US in 1930. I know they were active Methodists, probably in
the Wesleyan Chapel. We visited Caverswall briefly 3 yrs.
ago. A lovely village!
The family legend is that a deBoughey came over from France
probably in the 15th c.
If anyone has any knowledge of the family name, I would love
to hear from you -

I have a copy of a will dated 1981 of William Burgess
of Audley which refers to land and premises situate at
Mossfields in the parish of Caverswall lately purchased
by him and James Poole from William Wilding. Can anyone
help with this. I note that there were several Burgess
families in the area about that time. Two of which refer
to connections with Dimsdale (Wolstanton) and Chapel
Chorlton. Both of which border on Audley.
Any information would be appreciated -

My family history searching into the Bull family has thrown up extra census entries for the Bulls of Caverswall Staffs in the 1980s who were blacksmiths, William snr was almost certainly from Upper Cotton and a brother of my G grandfather, I'd first spotted them when looking up Caverswall as the place my G grandfather married for the second time
would anyone like the info I have? -

Looking for information regarding my father Wilfred JOHNSON born 1900 ,died 1972,Longton Staffordshire. he lived at Furnace road longton with his mother Mary Ellen JOHNSON. This family lived in Furnace road for approx. 50 years.(about three generations) Although WILFRED was born in August 4th 1900 and should have been living with his mother Mary Ellen Johnson and grandmother , MARY Johnson, formerly LEAK. there is no sign of him ON THE 1901 CENSUS My father EVENTUALLY makes an appearance on the 1911 census living with his cousin Edie Lear and his mother Mary Ellen, she had married a John Johnson from Ashwood rd longton in 1908 at St Johns church Longton. ( no relation to my father ) My father when older ran a dancing troupe that performed on Longton Park for quite a long time , he was very musical and played the violin and other instruments . I know very little of his background but do have some photos of him when he was courting my mother . In my collection of memorabilia I have an intriguing photograph of three ,possible teenagers sitting on the running board of an old car ,the date I cannot tell. I was told it came from the actual Johnson family , one of the girls resembles a striking likeness to my self .I would love to find out the rest of the history of the photograph .I would have a guess at the era ...1920/30s If any one would like me to send them a copy please contact me . any thing would be welcome ps....I was born in Longton in 1933and went to the following schools ........... Longton infants school.....Uttoxeter

The Cottages, off Clewlows Bank, near Bagnall
I am researching the history of my house, now called Blakewell Cottage. I believe it used to be three terraced cottages known as 'The Cottages'.
Any information or old photographs would be appreciated. -

I am tracing back my mothers family line(James) from Cheadle and I have come across an Ezra Austin, a Coalminer from Hulme Lane in the parish of Caverswall.
Although he was born in Ipstones in 1961 his ancestry just stops. I wonder if any of your fine folk recall him or his relatives.
