Staffordshire Sentinel
I would like to see the existing dates extended into the 1920 at least. My interest is the effect and aftermath of the First World War on the people of the Potteries.
Dear Readers
We are sourcing what we can from the Library’s holdings and have added 1940-1941, 1943-1950 in the last 24 hours.

I am tracing back my mothers family line(James) from Cheadle and I have come across an Ezra Austin, a Coalminer from Hulme Lane in the parish of Caverswall.
Although he was born in Ipstones in 1960 his ancestry just stops. I wonder if any of your fine folk recall him or his relatives.

Looking for any information relating to the Brayford Family from Wellington Court, The Nook, Heathcote Road, Longton. They are the family of Frederick Brayford. I also lived as a teenager in Grosvenor Street, off Heathcote Road, Longton from 1951 to 1978. My best friend at that time was one Sandra Dyke, so any information relating to her would be wonderful

Hello. I am trying to chase details of a firm called William Lees & Sons, potters probably in Hanley area. I believe William may be my great great great grandfather. My great grandfather was Archibald Lees, born 8 April 1921 in Hanley and died in Fenton on 3 Feb 1945. His father also Archibald Lees was born about 1913 and died in Hanley on 1 Mar 1973. His father was William Lees which would put his birth probably about 1910 but he died in Hanley on 21 Dec 1986. I think it is this William Lees who is of the firm William Lees & Sons. All those mentoned were potters, china gilders etc. Can anyone in the Hanley and Stoke area give me any information. I would be most grateful. I do have some more information including some addresses which may help if you think you can help.Thank you

Hi! I am having some trouble locating a information on a local legend. The info that I have shows Joan de Baumville, heiress of Whirril Forrest and Stourton marrying in secret Sir William de Stanley at a church in Astbury, Cheshire, England on Sept 27, 1282. The marriage was presided over by William's uncle, Bishop Sir John Stanley, who was rector of a church in Cartlidge. What I am trying to find is the name and location of the church where they married and any info possible on where they lived. Any additional info about their lives would also be appreciated. Thanks!

My uncle was Frederick Stuart Hughes who died aged 72 on July 14 1956. He was the younger son of Mr. Edward Hughes who with Mr. Enoch Massey founded the busines 1912. He left two sons Edward Hughes and Kenneth Hughes, His eldest son Alan was killed in WW 1. He also left a daughter Mrs. Malcolmson. I have a 1961 copy of the Pottery Gazette and Glass trade Review reporting his death. I would be delighted to get in touch with my Hughes relatives. Are you one? sincerely Paul Jones

I’m trying to research the history of my former home in Longton .. The address is.151 High street Longton. It is at present empty and boarded up as many more are in this area.
My family lived there from 1920 until 1979, Their name was WARD. I was born here and spent my early years at 151 High street, at this period it was known as High street post office.
my home was one of three shops, 153 next door was also occupied by the WARD family in the late 1960s1970s .
It was then a Mens hairdresser/ newsagent.I have reason to believe it was originally a Chapel I have family photos of it in the late 1970s when my family were Tailors, in the early 1980s it changed to a post office. I would like to know when it was first built and if there are any old pictures/history ,pre-1970, also "did it have a name". If any one could help me with this request

Could anyone tell me if Ukrainian refugees were also living in the Leek area. I do remember there was a refugee camp at Bradeley nr. Smallthorne when I was about 10-12yrs old. I think it housed either Polish or Ukraine people. The father of one of my best friends was Ukrainian, and I think he was living at one of these camps. I am trying to find out more about it for her, as she now lives down south. I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction so that I can pass the info on to her.

Hi there, So frustrated about this side of my family! I cant seem to get any further along for some reason!! Let me try and explain..........
My great grandma is Eliza Timmins born 1929 in Longton Stoke on Trent. She has siblings Sarah Ann, Mary Ann, Joseph and James. Its her parents that are baffling me!! Through the census info that I have (2) I discovered they were Martha Ann and Joseph Timmins. Now in the 1967 census they are 36 and 35 which makes sense, yet in the 1970 census their ages say 52 and 50 didn’t they get to fill in 1971 census’s themselves???!!! I know that these are both the same family in both census. They always list themselves as being born in longton, I cannot find them on previous census! I have no clue of Martha Ann’s maiden name! No marriage info, no birth info.... I’m totally stuck! Soooo I decided to send off for my great grandma Eliza’s birth certificate! No father listed!!!!!!! Yet Martha has signed as Martha timmins her married name!?!?!? I’m determined to crack this I have a feeling something is not quite right!!!!! does anyone have any suggestions or words of advise 😬😬
Thankyou for your time sorry for the long post!!! -

I used to run a coach to the Top Rank(suite) from Uttoxeter in the wilderness times between the Torch closing and that other place further up north opening!
We used to alternate weekends Cats one week Hanley the next, the D´js alternated if i remember rightly? Sam, Andy Hanley, Minsh and to be honest i am not sure who else(Tony Jebb?)
Wasn´t Tina Turner on one time(nutbush city limits time)
strange to be in the upstairs room when so many normal divs also inside the building!!
Remember the all-dayer well people completely around the building waiting to get in, and Big/Little willie swigging a bottle of dr Collis Brown!!
Biggest sound at that particular ´dayer in my memory "THE JOKER" pretty sure this was probably the first event after Pep had his records stolen as all the record sales boxes were severely scrutinised!
great venue, personal sounds that i remeber(from Sam) Betty Jones-No more tears, fabulous downbeats-Life goes on,Aint that love enogh-Larry Atkins and"the one that they want at The Mecca but we´ve got it here!...
