Great suggestion. If you are signed in, the system does know somewhere what you have already viewed, so in theory this is feasible…..

I don't mean to hijack your idea (which is right up my street) but can I ask for it to be considered (prior to implimentation) that subscribers can have the option of manually designating the 'status' of the listings on their search results page.
An automatic 'tick' thing just means that you've previously looked at the article. It could be the end of a long research session and an article, selected from the search results, turns out to be a real humdinger/epiphany but we are too tired to do it justice! In an automatic system - it would get a tick to tell us, next time we log in and search, that we've already viewed it.
Perhaps if we could have three manual tick boxes to identify (in the search results) which articles we've looked at and decided are not relevant to us; which articles we have looked at and 'processed'; and which articles we have looked at but think we need to look at again when we get more information. Perhaps we could have some 'user settings' to opt for not even showing us one or more of our search result categories?
My present system (for telling myself what I have already 'processed') is to bookmark the article with FT. (FT means the information, from the article, has been fully incorporated into my family tree.) So it's a really inefficient way of doing it because I have to open the article, from the search results, and look to see if it has one of my old FT bookmarks attached to it! So 'FT' tells me only one thing - and I have to open the article for it to tell me that one thing!
The option of manual tick boxes please!
