How can we improve the way you find and search our newspapers?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  2. State whether there is full coverage by date, and can we have a one time free entry so that we can see what we are getting.

  3. Search on file name

    After downloading the file is assigned a file number. It would be helpful to search using this number in order to get back to page on the site.

  4. Author search

    Hello,
    It would be very useful for readers to be able to search for articles written by a specific author. He is often indicated by a em dash in front of the name.
    Simply searching for the name of the author is not always a solution. I tried searching for articles written by Winston Churchill and had to seek the ones that are not just reporting about him.

  5. "Contact us" - 'Sorry! The page you were looking for was not found'

    I would like to make a complaint. However, when I try your "Contact us" - at the bottom of your page, I get: 'Sorry! The page you were looking for was not found'

    This is NOT good enough. I have a right to complain and have my complaint dealt with in person. Please contact me.

  6. The ability to restrict a search to titles added in a specific period is unreliable.

    Some titles appear when an otherwise identical search is conducted in two or more distinct periods. (It may be that some titles are omitted but this cannot be tested by the user). The problem was first reported to you many months ago but remains as at 25 Sept.2017. Users should not be reliant on this search facility until you can advise the problem has been corrected.

  7. Easier reporting of poorly transcribed titles from result page or item view page

  8. Please be able to scroll up or down on pages

    I find it very annoying that now when I click on an article, it shows the newspaper page but when I zoom in it only zooms the center of the page and it can't be scrolled up or down.It then has to be downloaded and the highlighted section disappears.

  9. Setting search options as personal defaults.

    Ideally, we should be able to set options for searching withouth having to reset every time we open up. As an historian I find it is frustrating that the default option is 'relevance' when 'date earliest' would be better. Recently, the website has taken to reverting to relevance at the drop of a hat which is frustrating in the extreme.

  12. I know the journal title and know that it has been digitised. So why is "search by title" not a search category? I can't get any results for

    Search for a word within a range of (however many) word(s) from the following word.
    You decide the maximum distance between each search term.

    Better drop down years. If you put 1914 in the first drop down menus the system should default to 1914 in the second

  16. Weather

    I'd love to be able to filter results by weather reports. I'm often trying to find what the weather might have been like on a specific day in a specific place - i.e was March 3rd 1922 war, cloudy, rainy, etc - so maybe results could be filtered to show just those columns and/or pages which have that weather info. It really helps give an extra touch of authenticity touch when writing up historic events. If it's possible to filter by advertisements, then why not weather?

  18. Be able to only show article titles and dates without pictures or any content after a search

    Article titles with content and pictures take up too much space in some cases. By providing an option to only show titles and dates it would be easier to select out the most promising articles.

    It seems that I cannot load the text when using Windows 8. I can only download who pdf pages which I have to manually transpose into useable text. There will be more and more people using this operating this system. How about updating for us?
