Newspapers we should add next

Tell us what publications would be of most use to you. You can be as general (Victorian cycling magazines) or specific (South Wales Argus) as you wish! We take on board all of your suggestions but are bound by copyright restrictions and our agreements with publishers, these form the boundaries of what we may publish online.

  1. Beverley Guardian

Beverley Guardian/Advertiser would be terrific as it covered lots of news for the East Riding of Yorkshire areas that wasn't always covered in other papers such as the Hull Daily Mail

Good news – The Beverley Guardian fits our inclusion criteria! We have researched the BL catalogue and it is available to us for digitisation. This title is only available to scan from the original paper (i.e. has not been previously microfilmed). Due to the British library’s move of the physical paper archive from Colindale to the custom built storage unit in Boston Spa, the paper is under embargo and we cannot digitise from paper until the new year. However, the good news is that we have the following years on our Digitisation Plan: 1856-1871.

Please be aware that until we have received the material into our studio and checked it, it is not possible to guarantee that it will be digitised.

  3. Ashton Reporter

A publication from Ashton under Lyne, the town which invented chips and fish and witnessed the Shaw family of brewers which spread to Merseyside and other towns in Lancashire such as Leigh. The Shaw family spawned an MP and local mayors. The Shaws were munificently generous leaving property and land to local residents and were generally very charitable.

  6. Sports titles

Hi - Delighted to see the Sports Argus up recently and wonder if more sports-based material is planned? From a selfish point of view I'd ask for the Sheffield Green 'Un (which does cover a wide swathe of Yorkshire & NE Midlands) but also suggest the Athletic News as a more general, historical source. Keep up the good work!

  7. Bacup Times

There is a lot of interest in Bacup local history, and currently not covered, the title also covers Rossendale, which is also not covered by current titles.

  8. The Athenaeum and the Literary Gazette

Please digitise THE Athenaeum and the Literary Gazette, both of which are impossible to obtain outside the capital (UCL), and even then the former now has to be ordered a volume at a time, and the latter is only accessible in scratched microfilm

    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you into some good news – Faversham Times and Mercury and North-East Kent Journal fits our inclusion criteria. We have researched the BL catalogue and it is available to us for digitisation. We have added the following years to our Digitisation Plan: 1939-1950

Please be aware that until we have received the material into our studio and checked it, it is not possible to guarantee that it will be digitised.

    Best wishes,
    Team BNA

Hi everyone, just to give you a little update:
We have just added the ‘Market Rasen Weekly Mail, and Lincolnshire Advertiser’, years 1856-1955 to our digitisation plan. In addition, we have also just added the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph 1937-1950 to the plan.

Please be aware that until we have received the material into our studio and checked it, it is not possible to guarantee that it will be digitised.

    Best wishes,
    Team BNA

Thank you for your suggestion. We have investigated the availability of the Lincolnshire Free Press – The good news (pun intended!) is that 1. It is in scope for us and 2. It appears to be available to us as microfilm. So . . . we have added this to our digitisation plan for future digitisation!

    Best wishes,
    Team BNA

  12. More Shropshire newspapers

Shropshire is hugely under represented at the moment with just 384 pages for the entire county!

My own interests lie in the key Market Town of Whitchurch.

  14. More Cumbrian Titles!

Apart from one year of the Kendal Mercury, I've been waiting an age for some Cumbrian publications.
The Carlisle Journal hasn't seen any additions since the first few weeks of your launch.
As for new publications, I would love to see some editions of the West Cumberland Times or the short-lived Wigton Advertiser.
By the way, a fantastic site bringing to light my fantastic ancestors!
