  2. Allow searches to be specified using "regular expressions"

Please allow searches to be specified using "regular expressions".
This is where the user specifies a pattern to look for rather than a fixed strings. This means that the user doesn't have to keep submitting searches for the same thing.
    For example.
    I'm looking for Henry Boot.
The problem is that "o" can look like o,a,s,0,c. "y" can look like y and v. etc (I'll keep it simple..)
Searching for him could result is searches for:
    Henry Boot
    Henry Boat
    Henry Bost
    Henry Boct
    Henry Baat
    Henry Baat
etc etc. Lots of separate searches.

However, a rexex search to achieve…

  3. OCCASIONAL POOR QUALITY OF DIGITALLY SCANNED IMAGES

Whoever checks the quality of the final scanned image prior to release needs to pay more attention to the detail because, in numerous instances, the reproduction quality is so feint that it is impossible for it to be read either in the digital interpretation or by the human eye.
Because of this, I have missed the opportunity to read several articles of interest and, to the best of my knowledge after searching the HELP categories, there is no facility for the user to report these page issues.

  5. Allow users to edit which paragraphs are included in a story

The OCR seems to select at random which blocks of text are to be included in a given story. Many times it would be useful to connect multiple paragraphs that your website treats as separate stories, but which actually should be only one.

  6. Missing search items

Why is it that sometimes when I do a search I can't find the item in the results?

For instance I searched for the the phrase "Nantwich Union" in 1825 and got this result:
    https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1820-01-01/1829-12-31?basicsearch=%22nantwich%20union%22%20&phrasesearch=nantwich%20union&exactsearch=false&retrievecountrycounts=false&sortorder=score

but the term Nantwich Union doesn't appear in the result:

  9. Ability to correct article sections, eg split, exclude, merge

When editing, I often find the selected "article" in fact includes multiple unconnected texts on the page. If I am going to help edit as I go anyway, I would rather I could fix this by eg, marking a line as being the end of an article, or not in the article at all when the selected texts are not related? Similarly, the ability to add by marking as part of the article when not currently selected. The thee common situations I see are: selected text continues past end of actual article (a split feature would help here); select text…

  11. Make your site available via local libraries and University’s

How about adding your site to local libraries and institutions this way you spread your good word and it makes it more available to people, students etc far and wide.

  12. Make it easy to see other editions of the same paper, from the search result you are reading

Quite often a story will be reported most thoroughly in a particular paper. So when I'm reading (say) Tuesday's edition (via the search), I can scroll between different pages for Tuesday, but it's not possible to easily see Monday or Wednesday's edition. I have to come right back out and browse through the newspapers, browse through the years, browse through the months, browse through the days! It's surely unnecessary? That would be a great improvement.

  14. Add a button 'Report image problem'

It appears only the first column has been scanned on https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0002677/17980801/003/0002 - but how can I report it (and all the other problems I come across).

  16. I was automatically re-subscribed to this Archive, though I didn't ask for it. Please get rid of the auto-renewal function

Get rid of the auto-renewal subscription feature. I've already paid a lot more than I signed up for.

  18. Let customers know which papers can be obtained and which

Are out of reach due to
Copywrite, loss of years or poor quality microfilms available or any other issues which may result in certain papers not being acquired.

    Could be important for
Votes to know which papers have a good chance of being added.

  19. Deleting Bookmarked Articles

I would like to be able to delete bookmarked articles. I have some which have turned out not to be relevant to the family I am researching. So many of our ancestors have the same names!

  20. Not more Middlesex?

    Tiresome
    Unimaginative
And considering lots of areas are currently underdeveloped ie Yorkshire, South Wales and South West, South Coast, East London and East Mids is a smack in the face to many loyal subscribers!!
