Improve resolution of PDFs, or just let us download the original image
The PDFs we get to download now are in some cases completely unreadable because the image resolution is far too low. This is especially disappointing when you save the PDF, and come back to do some work from it later on only to find it's a unusable.
Why can't we download high resolution images instead?

We will take a look at the options for this.

Future Publication Schedule
How about posting a schedule of proposed releases of newspapers. I check the site most days for the areas of the country I am most interested in but a prior announcement of forthcoming newspapers would be useful.

We have redeveloped the digitsation workflow software so that it can provide more granular detail on titles. Now we are investigating ways to send the data from the workflow to the website and make it presentable.

Academic Citation
The BNA has become an invaluable tool for researchers. I'd like the ability to download a citation of the records in the common formats MLA, Chicago etc.Your database is likely to contain the required information such as source, date, page number and so on. Is there any chance of such a facility being added?

completed runs & dates / better visibility of what is online
Let us know in an easily found format the entire run of a paper or journal held in the National Archive and when it has all been copied and put on line.

We have developed a prototype data feed from the digitisation workflow software which will provide much more granular data in future. Now we are looking at ways too feed this data through to the website and make it presentable

Please go back to the old layout.
The layout has become more difficult. Each item takes more vertical space and so more scrolling is needed. Furthermore, when I click on view, nothing happens. At present the system is of no use.

More Midlands papers, Derby Telegraph, Nottingham Post, Stoke Sentinel, Leicester Mercury etc etc
Would like to see more expansion into the midlands regions so many diverse and large cities to be explored

Daily indication of latest additions
It would be useful to show every day which years have been added or expanded the previous night, perhaps simply by showing the relevant year date in bold.

Ability to sort saved bookmark folders
The feature allowing search results to be sorted by publication date instead of 'relevance' is very useful. It would also be extremely useful if there was the same option to sort our saved/bookmarked items into publication date order. At present it seems they are sorted by the time the user saved them, which is usually fairly arbitrary. Other sorting orders (like by publication title) might also be helpful.

Stoke sentinel
Stoke Sentinel please update this far too much emphasis on appeasing Irish newspapers on this site, they only make up a small part of Britain

Improve viewer layout to make it easier to navigate
I prefer the page layout used by Gale News Vault. It makes it much easier to scroll through a news article. The default window in BNA is too small, and changing to full page view makes it very difficult to navigate the page.

We’ve now done a thorough review of NewsVault and will be taking some of the better design features into our product roadmap.

Subscription renewals
A decent way of renewing subscriptions, as you have a failed and useless system at present.

The idea of making the number of days left on your subscription is a great one and we will add it to the list. Val – when a subscription renewal fails, it is usually because the card you used has expired and you’ve been issued with a new one. Get in touch with Customer Support for help adding a new card. We will look at adding a facility for you to add a new card yourself in future.

Show how many matches from a search
When you do a search, you get ten results on the page and at the bottom links to four pages. But you have no idea if there is one more page or a hundred more pages.
It would be good to have an idea how many matches there are.
Also to be able to navigate direct to one of those pages especially when leaving a search overnight.

Save a single article
I have been reading for a couple of years that you hope to make it possible to save a single article instead of a whole page but I haven’t seen any progress in providing this, are you actually going to provide this option? it is why I let my subscription lapse, I would rejoin if this was sorted.

Make sure uploaded papers don't disappear
I notice that previous feedback refers to the falling number of newspapers available during the WWI period. I have had a similar problem today, in that one previously accessed newspaper (London Daily News, 22.08.1891) appears to have completely vanished from your site. I accessed it on the 24th February this year, but because the quality of the downloaded PDF was not great (another minor gripe), I wanted to check the original, to no avail.
Can you clarify whether or not vanishing newspapers are a common problem? Is it just your database being temperamental, or are certain uploads only temporary? Thanks…

We are now working on a process to add back in the newspapers we had to remove temporarily for copyright reasons – expect some good news soon!
